Procedure

    1. Adjust the Trim Valve

    2. Obtain corrected oil pressure at idle. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-005 for limits. Record the corrected oil pressure.

      NOTE

The trim valve adjustment has to be done only if oil pressure pump performance deterioration causes engine oil pressure below limit (MOP). Refer to TASK 71-00-00-810-011 fault isolation for troubleshooting low MOP.
    3. Identify the trim valve located on the oil pressure pump and filter assembly. Refer to Figure.

    4. Measure and record the dimension L. Using a Sliding Caliper 1 off. Refer to Figure.

    5. Temporary identify relative position of trim valve to pump casting. Use marker.

      1. Adjust the trim. Refer to Figure

      2. Hold the trim valve screw with a suitable wrench and loosen self locking nut. Turn counterclockwise to loosen the self locking nut.

        NOTE

Rotation of the trim valve by 1/4 turn clockwise, increases the MOP approximately by 9 PSI at engine idle condition.

        NOTE

The trim valve should be adjusted to obtain a corrected MOP not more than 10 PSI above the minimum required limit.
      3. Turn clockwise the trim valve screw as necessary.

      4. Record the rotation amount of the trim valve screw.

      5. Hold the trim valve screw with a wrench and turn clockwise the self locking nut.

      6. Torque the locking nut to between 290 to 370 lbf.in (33 to 42 Nm).

    6. Measure and record the dimension L. Use a sliding caliper

    7. Do an idle leak check. Ref TASK 71-00-00-700-003-A00 (TESTING-003)

      NOTE

The engine oil temperature must be 93 deg C (200 deg F) or greater
    8. Check and record the measured oil pressure at idle

      1. Correct the oil pressure at idle

      2. If corrected MOP is above limit, clear the engine for further service

      3. If corrected MOP is still below limit, start procedure again

      4. If minimum MOP can't be achieved reject the pump
