Common Information

TASK 71-00-00-700-022 Test No 22 (A1) - Restore EGT Margin On In-Service Engines, Testing-022

General

This TASK gives the procedure for the removal of the HPT vane plugs on the ACC valve to restore EGT margin on in-service engines.

This TASK should be completed only if performance data monitoring shows the EGT has increased by 68 deg F (20 deg C) relative to an initial level determined from new or overhauled engines.

Do this procedure if the EGT margin cannot be recovered through the troubleshooting procedures, core engine wash, or there is not sufficient EGT margin to operate the in-service engine.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-050-051 Remove the HPT/LPT ACC Air Valve

    2. Remove the ACC air valve. Refer to TASK 72-00-40-050-002, (Removal-12).

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-770-051-A00 Remove the Plugs from the HPT Vane on the ACC Valve and Install the Plugs in the Plug Storage Plate

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. CAUTION

THE ENGINE LIFE AND PERFORMANCE CAN BE ADVERSELY AFFECTED IF THE REMOVAL PLUGS ON THE VANE OF THE ACTIVE CLEARANCE CONTROL (ACC) VALVE ARE REMOVED FOR REASONS OTHER THAN THE REQUIREMENTS TO RESTORE EGT MARGIN AS GIVEN FROM THE ENGINE PERFORMANCE DATA.

Remove the four nuts, washers, screws (plugs) and bushings from the HPT vane on the ACC valve (Ref Figure).

    4. Install the bushings (4 off), screws (plugs) (4 off), washers (4 off) and nuts (4 off) in the four holes located on the ACC valve plug storage plate.

    5. Torque the four nuts to 10.0 to 11.5 lbf.in (1.13 to 1.30 Nm).

      1. Identify the ACC valve to the new part number given in Figure.

      2. Remove the numbers that exist in the specified areas on the identification plate. Use a deburring tool or equivalent.

      3. Lightly vibration peen or scribe the correct data on the identification plate in the specified areas.
