General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the seal ring carrier assembly from the HP compressor front shaft assembly.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-23-040-051 Remove the Seal Ring Carrier Assembly from the HP Compressor Front Shaft Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Put the HP compressor front shaft and seal assembly on to a suitable work surface in a vertical position, with the curvic teeth to the top.

    3. Release and remove the 18 nuts, bolts, washers and the spreader plate that safety the seal ring carrier assembly to the front shaft assembly.

    4. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THE TOOLS AND THE CURVIC TEETH ARE CLEAN. DIRTY SURFACES CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CURVIC TEETH.

      Install IAE 1R18721 Extraction plate 1 off on to the curvic teeth of the front shaft assembly. Make sure that the four slots in the plate are aligned with the four location dowels in the shaft.

      5. Install IAE 1R18720 Extractor 1 off to the HP compressor front shaft and seal assembly.

      1. Remove the lock ring, part of the extractor, from the three clamps.

      2. Loosen the six nuts sufficient to let the three clamps be moved.

      3. Move the clamps out from the center of the tool and install the extractor over the front shaft and seal assembly.

      4. Move the three clamps to the center of the tool so that they locate behind the seal ring carrier assembly then position the lock ring over the clamps.

      5. Tighten the six nuts to safety the three clamps in position.

    6. Install Cylinder 1 off and IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the extractor.

    7. Operate the hand pump and slowly remove the seal ring carrier assembly from the front shaft assembly.

    8. Remove the cylinder and hydraulic hand pump from the extractor.

      9. Remove the seal ring carrier from the extractor.

      1. Remove the lock ring from the three clamps.

      2. Release the six nuts sufficient to let the clamps be moved.

      3. Move the clamps out and remove the seal ring carrier from the extractor.

      4. Install the lock ring over the three clamps.

    10. Remove the extraction plate from the front shaft assembly.
