Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-320-073 Machine the Small Piloting Diameter of the Housing

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Machine the small piloting diameter.

      1. The diameter must be between 7.0047 to 6.9996 in. (177.920 to 177.790 mm).

        Remove all damage and wear.

        Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    2. SUBTASK 72-60-28-230-058 Examine the Housing

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    3. SUBTASK 72-60-28-330-065 Nickel Plate the Small Piloting Diameter of the Housing

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Mask the areas of the housing not to be plated.

      3. Do the nickel plating.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-08-300-503.

        Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

        The plating out of the small piloting diameter is permitted but must be removed.

    4. Remove the mask.

      5. Clean and dry the housing.

      1. Flush with cold water.

        Flush with hot water.

        Dry with air blast.

    4. SUBTASK 72-60-28-370-066 De-embrittle the Housing

      1. Put the housing into an oven at 241 to 260 deg F (116 to 127 deg C) for 60 to 90 minutes.

      1. Do this process as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

    5. SUBTASK 72-60-28-220-102 Examine the Housing

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      1. Plating must have a constant color.

        No circumferential cracks are permitted.

        No rough and blistering are permitted.

    6. SUBTASK 72-60-28-320-074 Machine the Small Piloting Diameter of the Housing

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Machine the small piloting diameter.

      1. The diameter must be between 7.0075 to 7.0059 in. (177.990 to 177.950 mm).

        Clean up the edges of groove and chamfer where necessary.

    7. SUBTASK 72-60-28-220-103 Examine the Nickel Plated Area, Fig

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Do the visual inspection of the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      1. Use a 4x magnifying glass.

        The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      3. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      1. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    8. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-071 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5069 adjacent to the part number.

      1. Remove the metal lifted by marking the number.
