Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-29-320-074 Machine the Deoiler Casing Mating Diameter of the Housing

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Machine the deoiler casing mating diameter.

        1. The diameter must be between 7.2805 in. to 7.2756 in. (184.924 mm to 184.800 mm).

        1. Remove all damage and wear.

        2. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    2. SUBTASK 72-60-29-230-056 Examine the Housing

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

      2. No cracks are permitted.

    3. SUBTASK 72-60-29-330-063 Nickel Plate the Deoiler Casing Mating Diameter of the Housing

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Mask the areas of the housing not to be plated.

      3. Do the nickel plating.

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-33-08-300-503.

      2. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

      3. The plating out of the deoiler casing mating diameter is permitted but must be removed.

    4. Remove the mask.

      5. Clean and dry the housing.

      1. Flush with cold water.

      2. Flush with hot water.

      3. Dry with air blast.

    4. SUBTASK 72-60-29-370-068 De-embrittle the Housing

      1. Put the housing into an oven at 241 deg F to 260 deg F (116 deg C to 127 deg C) for 60 to 90 minutes.

      1. Do this procedure as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

    5. SUBTASK 72-60-29-220-097 Examine the Housing

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      1. Plating must have a constant color.

      2. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      3. No rough and blistering are permitted.

    6. SUBTASK 72-60-29-320-075 Machine the Deoiler Casing Mating Diameter of the Housing

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Machine the casing mating diameter.

      1. The diameter must be 7.2835 in. to 7.2817 in. (185.000 mm to 184.955 mm).

      2. Clean-up the edges of groove and chamfer, where necessary.

    7. SUBTASK 72-60-29-220-098 Examine the Nickel Plated Area

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Do the visual inspection of the plated area for cracks and adhesion.

      2. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      3. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      1. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    8. SUBTASK 72-60-29-350-076 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5084 adjacent to the part number.

      1. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
