Common Information

TASK 71-00-00-700-054-B00 Discontinued Start And Shutdown Procedures, Testing-000

Discontinued Start Procedure

Discontinued automatic start.

During automatic start, the EEC will find abnormal conditions and abort the start.

Discontinued manual start.

Abort the start as follows:

Set Label 031 BIT 14 = 0 and BIT 15 = 1. (If the starter is not engaged, stop until N2 is below 1495 RPM (10%), then continue).

Set the EIU inputs to the DRY MOTOR mode. Refer to Figure.

The fuel and ignition will go off. Continue to dry motor the engine for 60 seconds to remove caught fuel or gases or until the EGT decreases below 482 deg F (250 deg C).

Set the EIU inputs to the SHUTDOWN mode to stop the engine.

Engine Shutdown Procedure

Normal Shutdown

Operate the engine at APPROACH IDLE for five minutes before you do an engine shutdown. If you operated the engine at high power (more than 1.33 EPR) for more than five minutes, increase the time at APPROACH IDLE to 15 minutes before shutdown.

Engine shutdown because the No. 4 bearing compartment scavenge pressure limit was exceeded (potential fire situation).

When the No. 4 bearing compartment scavenge pressure limit is exceeded, you must decrease the engine power immediately in a smooth deceleration over a period of 20 seconds to idle power, and shut down the engine by the Normal Shutdown procedure given above.

NOTE

If the engine is started by the Auto-Start procedure and an abort start occurs when N2 is below starter cut out speed (43 percent N2 or 6372 N2 RPM), the EEC will automatically start a dry crank at 10 percent N2 (1500 N2 RPM) for a minimum of 30 seconds or until EGT goes below 250 deg C (starter run time will be limited to a maximum of two minutes by the EEC).

CAUTION

ABNORMAL SCAVENGE PRESSURE CAN BE AN INDICATION OF A BROKEN CARBON SEAL WHICH CAN RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT OIL LOSS AND POTENTIAL INTERNAL FIRE.
