TASK 70-31-02-310-501-011 Argonarc Welding Repairs - The Procedure To Weld Nickel Base Alloy C263

General

C263 is a nickel chromium alloy of the precipitation hardening type. It is easily welded in the solution treated, or aged conditions.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-31-02-310-022 Preparation of the Surface

      1. If possible cut the defects out completely. The recommended procedures are:

      2. Tungsten carbide cutters.

      3. Mounted grinding points.

      4. NOTE

        Grind carefully to prevent damage.

        Thin elastic wheels.

    2. Make sure the defect is completely removed with an applicable NDT procedure.

    3. Remove all oxides and unwanted materials from the area adjacent to the repair. Use a rotary file, abrasive mop or abrasive cloth.

    2. Automatic current slope-out is necessary to prevent crater cracks.

    3. For the weld procedure refer to the applicable Repair and the SPM TASK 70-31-02-310-501-001.

    1. SUBTASK 70-31-02-370-009 The Heat Treatment of C263

    2. Pre weld heat treatment is not necessary.

    3. Heat treatment instructions are given in the applicable Repair. Also refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-02-310-501-001 and SPM TASK 70-31-02-310-501-004.

    1. SUBTASK 70-31-02-001- Mechanical Repairs

    2. C263 material 18.S.W.G. (1.2 mm) or thinner, which do not require a filler wire MUST NOT be welded at a speed greater than 5 in. per minute (125 mm per minute). Specific conditions relative to clamping, chill gaps and backing groove size need to be considered. These conditions should be discussed with IAE.
