TASK 70-32-06-320-501 Grinding Of Titanium Parts

General

It is not permitted to grind the bores or webs of rotating parts.

After you grind surfaces to this procedure, the surface must be without:

Tears

Pits

Burns

Other imperfections.

For grinding parameters (IAE 106), refer to Step thru Step.

NOTE

After you make your selection of one of the above materials, refer to the applicable manufacturer's instructions to mix and keep this material. Do not intermix coolants and grinding fluids in the same machine. These coolants and cutting fluids are approved for use on steels, stainless steels, nickel base alloys, cobalt base alloys, aluminum, titanium and titanium alloys.

NOTE

Single-point turning of titanium base material is an alternative to grinding when this procedure is specified. No turning of plated material is permitted.

WARNING

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO OBTAIN AND OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURER'S MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. THESE CONTAIN INFORMATION SUCH AS, HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES AND ALSO TO TAKE LOCAL REGULATIONS INTO CONSIDERATION.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMOVE FREQUENTLY GRINDING SLUDGE FROM THE MACHINE BECAUSE HYDROGEN GAS FROM THE SLUDGE INCREASES THE RISK FOR POSSIBLE FOR FIRE OR EXPLOSION.
TITANIUM DUST CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS FIRE. THUS, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO CLEAN THE MACHINE AND THE WORK AREA A MINIMUM OF ONE TIME EACH DAY TO REMOVE THE TITANIUM DUST. DO NOT LET TITANIUM DUST GET ON CLOTHING.
