WARNING
Procedure
Apply CoMat 02-066 CHEMICAL MILLING MASKANT or CoMat 02-067 STRIPPABLE COATING, as necessary. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.
Abrasive blast the areas to be plated, as necessary. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-08-300-503 or TASK 70-12-11-300-503 or SPM TASK 70-12-06-120-501.

CAUTION
KEEP THE PARTS IN THE DISTILLED OR DEIONIZED WATER UNTIL YOU START STEP Q., WHICH MUST BE STARTED IN LESS THAN ONE HOUR AFTER STEP P. IF YOU DO NOT START WITHIN ONE HOUR, YOU MUST DO STEPS O. AND P. AGAIN.
CAUTION
KEEP THE PARTS WET IN STEP P. AND ALL SUBSEQUENT STEPS. DO NOT PERMIT THE PARTS TO DRY.Put the parts fully into CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER at room temperature, immediately after abrasive blasting. Examine the blast areas for an even matte finish.

CAUTION
IF YOU DO NOT START THIS STEP WITHIN ONE HOUR AFTER YOU DO THE ABOVE STEP, YOU MUST ABRASIVE BLAST AND THEN PUT THE PARTS IN DISTILLED OR DEIONIZED WATER AGAIN.NOTE
If the bubble do not start in three minutes, discard the old solution and make up a new solution.Put the parts fully into Solution Code 82, at room temperature, for three minutes after the bubbles start.
Put the parts fully into one of the acid solutions that follow:
Flush the parts immediately in CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER at room temperature for 12 to 18 seconds.

CAUTION
DO STEP S. IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT PERMIT THE PARTS TO DRY.NOTE
Keep the pH of Solution Code 83 between 7.5 and 9.0 with sodium hydroxide (CoMat 01-008 SODIUM HYDROXIDE NaOH (CAUSTIC SODA), SOLID) or tartaric acid (CoMat 01-087 TARTARIC ACID CRYSTALS).Put the parts fully into Solution Code 83, at room temperature, for 30 to 60 seconds.

CAUTION
DO NOT PERMIT THE PARTS TO DRY.Flush the parts in CoMat 01-201 DISTILLED, DEIONIZED, DEMINERALIZED, OR REVERSE OSMOSIS (RO) WATER, at room temperature, for 12 to 18 seconds.
NOTE
To control the time necessary for a given thickness, plate test panels with the parts. Then, at different intervals of time during the plating process, remove a test panel from the solution and measure the plate thickness on the panels. The thickness rate will then be controlled by such conditions as movement, solution, and temperature.NOTE
For the usual solution, used with the usual conditions, the thickness rate will be approximately 0.0005 in./hour (0.0127 mm/hour) at 190 deg F (88 deg C).NOTE
If necessary, make cathodic and apply one volt to operate. Turn off the current, when the parts start to bubble.Put the parts fully into Solution Code 86, or Solution Code 155 at 180 to 205 deg F (82 to 96 deg C), or into Solution Code 87 at 180 to 190 deg F (82 to 85 deg C), for the necessary time.
Bake the plated parts, in air or CoMat 03-010 ARGON GAS or in CoMat 03-468 NITROGEN, at 725 to 775 deg F (385 to 413 deg C) for one hour.
