TASK 70-12-06-120-501 Wet Abrasive Blast Clean with No 240 or No 320 Aluminum Oxide
General
When this SPM is specified in a repair by itself or as part of a chemical strip process for the removal of coating, it is permitted to use SPM TASK 70-15-01-160-501 as an alternative. Refer to Section 70-15-01, SPM TASK 70-15-01-160-501 for restrictions.
It is not permitted to use this SPM as an alternative to SPM TASK 70-12-13-300-503.
It is permitted to use SPM TASK 70-12-13-300-503 as an alternative to this SPM where this SPM is specified in the technical publications.
Refer to Section 70-10-00, SPM TASK 70-10-00-100-501 for other applicable requirements.

Procedure
Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-48-110-501, SUBTASK 70-11-48-110-010 for the Make-up of Solution Code 10.
SUBTASK 70-12-06-120-001 Make up of Solutions.
Degrease the part, if necessary (refer to SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503 or SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503).
Mask the part, as necessary, to prevent abrasive entrapment. It is permitted to use caps and plugs and to apply masking tape from SPM TASK 70-34-18-380-501.
Install CoMat 02-348 AIRSEAL MASK on the knife-edge airseals to prevent erosion of the thermal spray coating. If the CoMat 02-348 AIRSEAL MASK is not sufficient to give the knife-edge airseal protection from the abrasive blast, install the CoMat 02-348 AIRSEAL MASK on the knife-edge airseal, and then apply a cover of masking tape from SPM TASK 70-34-18-380-501.

CAUTION
DO NOT BLAST ON HARDFACE COATINGS UNLESS SPECIFIED BY STRIPPING INSTRUCTIONS IN THE ENGINE MANUAL OR THE STRIPPING PROCEDURE; HOWEVER, BLASTING OVERSPRAY IS PERMITTED.DO NOT BLAST THE SAME AREA FOR MORE THAN TWO SECONDS; USE CONTINUOUS MOTION.Blast the part with Solution Code 10 wet abrasive compound (Step) as necessary to remove scale.
SUBTASK 70-12-06-120-003 The Procedure of Wet Abrasive Blasting (Suction Type Machine)
Put the part fully in hot water at 150 deg F to 200 deg F (66 deg C to 93 deg C) to increase the temperature of the part sufficiently to flash dry.
NOTE
If the water on the part does not flash off when the part comes out of the hot water, then the time interval that the part stayed in the hot water was too short.Remove the part from the hot water to flash dry. If the part has cavities and recesses, rotate the part as soon as possible to flash off the water.
Preserve the part in a corrosion preventive, as necessary. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-05-380-501.
