Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-68-300-001 Prepare the Parts

    2. Remove the grease - (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503 or SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503).

    3. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THE PARTS ARE CORRECTLY MASKED, TO PREVENT OVER SPRAY DAMAGE.

      Dry grit blast areas to be stripped, as necessary - (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-09-120-501).

    4. CAUTION

      COOLING HOLES, SLOTS AND EDGES, THAT KEEP CLOSE TOLERANCE COATINGS MUST BE MASKED WITH CoMat 02-067 STRIPPABLE COATING BEFORE THE MASKING WAX COMPOUND IS APPLIED.

      Apply masking wax to all no-coat areas and coated areas that are not to be stripped. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-24-380-501.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-68-300-002 Remove the IAE 70-38-10 (PWA 73), IAE 70-38-29 (PWA 273) and IAE 70-38-23 (PWA 275)

      CAUTION

      MUCH MOVEMENT OF THE SOLUTION IS NECESSARY, TO PREVENT LOCAL PITTING.
    2. Put the parts into baskets or fixtures made of, or coated with, polyethylene or polypropylene.

    3. Put the parts fully into the 20 percent nitric acid solution - (solution code 44), at 75 to 120 deg F (24 to 49 deg C), for two hours - (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-68-100-501, SUBTASK 70-33-68-100-001).

    4. Fully flush with water, at 68 deg F (20 deg C), for 30 seconds.

    5. Use a spray gun and compressed air to apply water, at 68 deg F (20 deg C), for 30 to 60 seconds.

    6. CAUTION

      DO NOT BLAST THE WAX MASKED AREAS.

      Abrasive blast, as necessary - (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-09-120-501 or SPM TASK 70-12-06-120-501).

    7. Fully flush with clean water, at 68 deg F (20 deg C), for 30 seconds.

    8. Use a spray gun and compressed air to apply water, at 68 deg F (20 deg C), for 30 to 60 seconds.

    9. CAUTION

      MUCH MOVEMENT OF THE SOLUTION IS NECESSARY.

      Put the parts fully into the 20 percent nitric acid solution - (solution code 44), at 75 to 120 deg F (24 to 49 deg C), for five minutes - (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-68-100-501, SUBTASK 70-33-68-100-001).

      1. Examine the parts, for a coating. A dark gray layer shows there is a coating.

      2. If there is a coating, do Step.

      3. If the coating is removed, do Step.

      1. CAUTION

        MUCH MOVEMENT OF THE SOLUTION IS NECESSARY.

        Put the parts fully into the CoCrAlY and NiCoCrAlY stripping solution - (solution code 90), at 125 to 160 deg F (52 to 71 deg C), for one hour - (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-68-100-501, SUBTASK 70-33-68-100-002).

      2. If there is a coating, do Step.

      3. If the coating is removed, do Step.

    10. CAUTION

      THE TOTAL TIME IN THE ACID SOLUTIONS MUST NOT BE MORE THAN FOUR HOURS.

      Do Step thru Step, and Step, for five minutes. Then, do Step and Step, until the coating is removed; or until the part is in the acid solutions for not more than four hours.

    11. Flush with water, at 68 deg F (20 deg C), for 30 seconds.

    12. Flush with water, at 130 to 160 deg F (54 to 71 deg C), for 30 seconds.

    13. Dry with compressed air, for one minute.

    14. If there is masking wax on the part, remove the masking wax. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-24-380-501.
