Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-76-300-001 Prepare the Parts

    2. Degrease the part. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      1. CAUTION

        IF PARTS ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY MASKED, OVERSPRAY DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.

        Apply a mask or maskants to the part. Make sure the part is sufficiently masked to prevent overspray damage.

      2. Dry grit blast the applicable areas. Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-09-120-501.

        1. Wax mask with CoMat 02-021 MASKING WAX COMPOUND all the areas that are not to have PWA 73, PWA 273, and PWA 275 removed. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 70-33-76-300-002 Remove the PWA 73, PWA 273 and PWA 275

      CAUTION

      TO PREVENT LOCAL PITTING ON THE PART, THE SOLUTION MUST HAVE STRONG AGITATION (MOTION) WHILE THE PART IS IN THE SOLUTION.
      MAKE SURE THE WAX MASK IS NOT DAMAGED BEFORE YOU PUT THE PART IN THE SOLUTION.
    2. Put the parts in applicable racks or fixtures made of, or with a cover of, polyethylene or polypropylene.

    3. Put the parts fully into the nitric-phosphoric acid strip solution or the nitric acid stripping solution (refer to SPM TASK 70-33-76-100-501) for 60 minutes at a minimum temperature of 75 °F (24 °C).

    4. Flush the parts with clean, cold water for half a minute at room temperature.

    5. Flush the parts with a compressed air/water spray for half to one minute at room temperature.

    6. CAUTION

      DO NOT BLAST WAX MASKED AREAS.

      Wet abrasive blast the parts, as required. Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-06-120-501.

    7. Do Step and Step again.

    8. Do Step again but leave the parts in the solution for only five minutes.

    9. Examine the parts. If any of the PWA 73, PWA 273 and PWA 275 has not been removed (it will be seen as dark gray smut) do Step again for 25 minutes. Shake the solution continuously.

    10. Do Step and Step again.

    11. CAUTION

      THE PARTS MUST NOT BE PUT IN THE ACID FOR MORE THAN A TOTAL OF THREE HOURS.

      Do Step thru Step again until all the PWA 73, PWA 273 and PWA 275 has been removed.

    12. Flush the parts with hot water for half a minute. The water must be at a temperature of 130 to 160 deg F (54 to 71 deg C).

    13. Dry the parts with air for one minute.

    14. Remove the wax masking. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.
