Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-06-360-001 Prepare the Parts

    2. NOTE

The dry blasting must only be done when it is specified in the Engine Manual.

Dry abrasive blast in accordance with the Engine Manual when necessary.

    3. Clean the moulding surfaces with a clean cloth made moist with CoMat 01-076 METHYL ETHYL KETONE or a solvent from SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-26-110-003.

    4. Dry the moulding surfaces by air for a minimum of 10 minutes.

    5. NOTE

The primed surfaces should have a faintly visible pink coloration. If there is no visible coloration the primer film may not be continuous. If the color is quite bright, streaky bright or chalky the primer is too thick.

After cleaning, within the time specified in the Engine Manual, apply a thin layer of CoMat 08-032 PRIMER to the moulding surfaces with a clean cloth.

    6. Dry at room temperature, for a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 24 hours, at a moisture level equivalent to 20 - 90 percent relative humidity at 77 deg F (25 deg C).

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-06-360-002-A01 Make-up of CoMat 08-037 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Mix 99.5 to 100.5 parts by weight of the rubber component with 9.8 to 10.2 parts by weight of the catalyst component in a minimum of 10 minutes at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C).

    3. Remove all air in a maximum vacuum of 50 mm of mercury for a minimum of 30 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-06-360-002-A02 Make-up of CoMat 08-038 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Mix 99.5 to 100.5 parts by weight of the rubber component with 9.8 to 10.2 parts by weight of the catalyst component in a minimum of 10 minutes at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C).

    3. Remove all air in a maximum of vacuum of 50 mm of mercury for a minimum of 30 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-06-360-003 Apply and Cure the Silicone Rubber Compounds

    2. Apply CoMat 08-037 DELETED or CoMat 08-038 SILICONE RUBBER COMPOUND into the moulding areas using air pressure type dispenser or equivalent.

    3. NOTE

The more detailed instruction is given in the Engine Manual.

Cure the compounds at 290 to 310 deg F (143 to 154 deg C) for one hour with the moulding fixture installed.

    4. NOTE

The more detailed instruction is given in the Engine Manual.

Cure the compounds at 390 to 410 deg F (199 to 210 deg C) for one hour without the moulding fixture.

    1. SUBTASK 70-36-06-220-001 Examine the Moulded Areas

    2. Examine the moulded area, to make sure it is free from defects such as, voids, recesses, cracks, bubbles, foreign inclusions, peeling and discoloration. More inspection checks and the dimension checks must be done, when specified in the Engine Manual.
