Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 70-37-01-370-001 Stress-Relief Cycle 12A

    2. NOTE

Cycle 12A increases and decreases the temperature gradually to keep to a minimum the distortion of parts in which sudden temperature changes can cause distortion.

      NOTE

If a repair task specifies to use Cycle 12 (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-29-370-501), then it is permitted to use Cycle 12A as an alternative to Cycle 12.

      NOTE

If a repair task specifies to use Cycle 12A, but does not specify to use Cycle 12 (Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-29-370-501), then it is not permitted to use Cycle 12 as an alternative to Cycle 12A.

Put the part in a cold oven. Air is a permitted atmosphere.

    3. Increase the temperature of the part to 600 deg F (316 deg C) and hold for 30 minutes.

    4. Increase the temperature of the part to 800 deg F (427 deg C) and hold for 30 minutes.

    5. Increase the temperature of the part to 1000 deg F (538 deg C) and hold for 30 minutes.

    6. Increase the temperature of the part to 1200 deg F (649 deg C) and hold for 30 minutes.

    7. Increase the temperature of the part to 1325 to 1375 deg F (718 to 746 deg C) and hold for four hours.

    8. Decrease the temperature of the part to 1175 to 1225 deg F (635 to 663 deg C) at a rate not faster than 125 deg F (70 deg C) for each hour and hold for a time which, together with cooling time from 1350 deg F (732 deg C), totals three hours.

    9. Decrease the temperature of the part to 500 deg F (260 deg C) at a rate not faster than 100 deg F (56 deg C) for each 15 minutes. Subsequent temperature decrease rate is optional.
