WARNING
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OPERATOR TO OBTAIN AND OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURERS MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS FOR CONSUMABLE MATERIALS INFORMATION SUCH AS, HAZARDOUS INGREDIENTS, PHYSICAL/CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS, FIRE, EXPLOSION, REACTIVITY, HEALTH HAZARD DATA, PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING, USE AND CONTROL MEASURES AND ALSO TO TAKE LOCAL REGULATIONS INTO CONSIDERATION.
Procedure

WARNING
HYDROGEN GAS IS HIGHLY FLAMMABLE AND EXPLOSIVE FOLLOW ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS.
CAUTION
DO NOT USE HEAT TREATMENT CYCLE 20 FOR SOLUTION HEAT TREATMENT OF IAE 1038, HASTELLOY X, MATERIAL. THIS MATERIAL WAS SOLUTION TREATED AT 1950 DEG F (1066 DEG C) AT ITS MANUFACTURE. THE MATERIAL PROPERTIES THAT OCCUR FROM THIS LOWER TEMPERATURE TREATMENT CAN BE LOST PERMANENTLY IF A TEMPERATURE HIGHER THAN 1900 DEG F (1038 DEG C) IS APPLIED TO THE PART. USE CYCLE 22 (SPM TASK 70-37-24-370-501) FOR THE SOLUTION TREATMENT OF IAE 1038, UNLESS SPECIFIED DIFFERENTLY BY A SPECIAL REPAIR PROCEDURE.NOTE
When solution heat treatment is to be followed by a weld repair, it is necessary to fully remove oxides. Hydrogen is recommended because of its cleaning properties to the part. Hydrogen cleaning removes oxides from all surfaces, which include those difficult to clean mechanically and, to some degree, from the inside of cracks to be welded.Increase the temperature of the part to 2025 to 2075 deg F (1107 to 1135 deg C) and hold for 7 to 10 minutes. CoMat 03-138 HYDROGEN GAS (PROTECTIVE ATMOSPHERE) or CoMat 03-010 ARGON GAS or CoMat 03-117 ARGON GAS or CoMat 03-118 ARGON GAS or a vacuum is a satisfactory atmosphere.
