Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-220-071 Examine the Area of the Duct for Repair

      1. Mark the repair area of the duct.

      2. The repair area of the duct must measure a minimum dimension of 10 times the depth of damage.

      1. Measure the external diameter of the duct at the damaged area.

      2. Use the applicable micrometer and record the diameter.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-350-052 Repair the Area of Damage

      1. Remove the damage.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-110-055 Clean the Repaired Area

      WARNING

DO NOT GET THE CLEANING FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GLOVES, GOGGLE AND A MASK. USE THE FLUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. IF YOU GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.
      1. Clean the repaired area.

      2. Make the area clean with a clean piece of lint free cloth before the fluid dries.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-220-072 Examine the Repaired Area

      1. Examine the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Inspection-000 TASK 30-21-49-200-100.

      3. Make sure that the repair area is smooth and has no scratches.

      4. Make sure that the repaired area has no sudden changes in thickness.

      1. Measure the external diameter of the duct at the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Use the applicable micrometer.

      4. Make sure that the deepest area of the repair is measured.

      5. Record the diameter.

      1. Calculate the wall thickness of the duct in the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Figure (Dimension X).

      3. Compare the external diameter measurement (after the repair) with the measurement made before the repair.

      4. The difference between them must be no more than 0.004 in. (0.102 mm).

      5. If more than 0.004 in. (0.102 mm), discard the duct.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-220-073 Examine the Area of the End Fitting for Repair

      1. Mark the repair area of the end fitting.

      2. The repair area of the end fitting must measure a minimum of 10 times the depth of damage.

      1. Measure the thickness of the materials at the damaged area.

      2. Use the applicable micrometer and record this dimension.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-350-053 Repair the Area of Damage

      1. Remove the damage.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-110-056 Clean the Repaired Area

      WARNING

DO NOT GET THE CLEANING FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GLOVES, GOGGLES AND A MASK. USE THE FLUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. IF YOU GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.
      1. Clean the repaired area.

        1. Make the area clean with a clean piece of lint-free cloth before the fluid dries.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-220-074 Examine the Repaired Area

      1. Examine the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Inspection-000 TASK 30-21-49-200-100.

      3. Make sure that the repair area is smooth and has no scratches.

      4. Make sure that the repaired area has no sudden changes in thickness.

      1. Measure the thickness of the material at the repaired area.

      2. Make sure that the deepest area of the repair is measured. Record the thickness.

      1. Calculate the thickness of the end fitting in the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Figure (Dimension X).

      3. Compare the thickness measurement (after the repair) with the measurement made before the repair.

      4. The difference between the measurements must not be more than 0.010 in. (0.254 mm).

      5. Discard any end fittings that are not in these limits.

    1. SUBTASK 30-21-49-780-055 Pressure Test the Repaired Duct

      1. Do a pressure test on the repaired duct.
