General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal.

During the removal procedure make sure that the harnesses are held temporarily along their different lengths. This is to prevent too much strain on the harnesses, cables and electrical connectors.

During the removal procedure put the special plastic caps on the electrical connectors and receptacles. This is to give protection from unwanted fluids or materials.

To identify consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-050-051 Remove the Relay Box

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. WARNING

        BEFORE YOU WORK ON THE IGNITION SYSTEM YOU MUST ISOLATE THE POWER SUPPLY AND WAIT TWO MINUTES FOR THE CURRENT TO DISCHARGE. THE DISCHARGE CURRENT IS DANGEROUSLY HIGH.

        Disconnect the electrical connectors.

      1. Disconnect the electrical connector 4100KS-A from the relay box receptacle.

      2. Attach the disconnected harness to the primary harness bundle (so the harness does not bend) with CoMat 06-086 TIES.

      3. Disconnect the electrical connector 4100KS-E from the relay box receptacle.

      4. Attach the disconnected harness to the mounting bracket as given in step (2).

      5. Remove the bolts, the washers, the clipnut and the nuts at the clip positions 0207, 0550 and 0791.

      6. Disconnect the electrical connectors 4100KS-B, 4100KS-C and 4100KS-D.

      7. Attach the disconnected harnesses to the primary harness bundle (so the harnesses do not bend) with CoMat 06-086 TIES.

      3. Remove the relay box.

      1. Remove the nut, the two washers and the bolt that attaches the bonding strap to the bracket Ignition Relay Box (71-51-49, 01-380) on flange FB.

      2. NOTE

        The relay box removed in this procedure must have its maintenance completed as given in the D.S.I.C. Component Maintenance Manual (71-51-49).

        Remove the four bolts and four washers that attach the relay box to the mounting bracket. Remove the relay box.
