General

This TASK gives the procedure to install the Igniter plug.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha-variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL engine oil, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

For the torque tightening procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and SPM TASK 70-41-01-400-501.

After assembly apply CoMat 07-038 AIR DRYING ENAMEL to any damaged surface protection, joint flanges and attach parts. Use the correct color of the air drying enamel. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-21-380-501.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-40-630-051 Remove the Covers

    2. Remove all covers from the openings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-40-450-054 Install the Igniter Plug (74-21-41, 01-100)

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Make sure that the threads of the igniter plug Igniter Plug (74-21-41, 01-100) are clean.

      NOTE

      On installation of the igniter plug make sure that the plug goes through the outer liner of the combustion chamber.
    4. Install the igniter plug Igniter Plug (74-21-41, 01-100).

    5. Torque the igniter plug to between 300 and 360 lbfin (3.39 and 4.07 mdaN).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-40-440-053 Connect the Ignition Lead (74-21-43, 01-100)

    3. CAUTION

      IF YOU REPLACE PRE SBE 70-1004 IGNITION LEADS WITH POST SBE 70-1004 IGNITION LEADS OR VICE VERSA, VERIFY CONCURRENCY REQUIREMENTS IN SBE 70-1004.

      CAUTION

      DO NOT BEND THE ELECTRICAL CABLE CONDUIT TOO MUCH WHEN YOU CONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. THE CONDUIT CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.

      Connect the ignition lead IGNITION-IGNITION LEADS (74-21-43, 01-100) to the igniter plug Igniter Plug (74-21-41, 01-100).

    4. Torque the ignition lead IGNITION-IGNITION LEADS (74-21-43, 01-100) to between 140 and 160 lbfin (15.82 and 18.08 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-40-440-054 Install the Cooling Shrouds (74-21-43,01-070) and (74-21-43,01-075)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      IF YOU REPLACE PRE SBE 70-1005 COOLING SHROUDS WITH POST SBE 70-1005 COOLING SHROUDS OR VICE VERSA, VERIFY CONCURRENCY REQUIREMENTS IN SBE 70-1005.

      Install the cooling shrouds IGNITION-IGNITION LEADS (74-21-43,01-070) and IGNITION-IGNITION LEADS (74-21-43, 01-075) to the connection between the igniter plug and the ignition lead.

    4. Install the clamps IGNITION-IGNITION LEADS (74-21-43, 01-055) and IGNITION-IGNITION LEADS (74-21-43, 01-060) to the cooling shrouds.

    5. Torque the clamp screws to between 20 and 25 lbfin (2.26 and 2.82 Nm).

    2. Hear the electrical discharge of the igniter plug, or an engine start.
