General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and key washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-560-051 Turn the LP Turbine Module Front End Down

    1. Make sure that the spools (part of IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off) are in the correct position at the center of gravity.

    2. Turn the LP turbine module front end down.

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-50-560-052 Install the LP Turbine Module in to the Vertical Stand

    1. NOTE

      Make sure that the IAE 1F10101 Counter weights kit 1 off is installed to the IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand 1 off.
      Safety the vertical stand with the four arms.

      Refer to Figure.

    2. Turn the locknut down to the end position.

    3. Turn the lockring down to the bottom position. Make sure that the support is in the open position.

    4. Lift the LP turbine module above the vertical stand. Align the front end of the LP turbine shaft to the center hole of the vertical stand.

    5. Lower the LP turbine module carefully in to the vertical stand. Make sure that all holes of the LP turbine case front flange are aligned with the holes of the vertical stand.

    6. Attach the LP turbine case front flange with the eight bolts, nuts and washers to the vertical stand. Tighten the nuts.

    7. Turn the lockring up until the support ring touches the front end of the LP turbine shaft.

    8. Turn the locknut up and safety the position of the lockring.

    9. Turn the support to the front end of the LP turbine shaft.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-50-560-053-A00 V2500-A1: Remove the Handling Fixture from the LP Turbine Module

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Attach the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the rear spools of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off.

    3. Turn the knob clockwise to disengage the clamps of the IAE 1F10063 Expanding retainer 1 off.

    4. Release the nut and turn it rearwards to the end position.

    5. Loosen and remove the 13 screws which attach the handling fixture to the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    6. Lift the handling fixture carefully 0.4in. (10.2 mm) until it is free from the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    7. Move the handling fixture carefully sideways to disengage it from the expanding retainer.

    8. Remove the handling fixture from the expanding retainer.

    9. Remove the two cables sling from the handling fixture and from the hoist equipment.

    10. Turn the handwheel of the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off clockwise to disengage the support from the LP turbine shaft.

    11. Release the support fixture from the inner rear flange of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the support fixture and the expanding retainer from the LP turbine module.

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-50-560-053-B00 V2500-A5: Remove the Handling Fixture from the LP Turbine Module

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Attach the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the rear spools of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off.

    3. Turn the knob clockwise to disengage the clamps of the IAE 1R18907 Expanding retainer 1 off.

    4. Release the nut and turn it rearwards to the end position.

    5. Loosen and remove the 13 screws which attach the handling fixture to the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    6. Lift the handling fixture carefully 0.4 in. (10.2 mm) until it is free from the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    7. Move the handling fixture carefully sideways to disengage it from the expanding retainer.

    8. Remove the handling fixture from the expanding retainer.

    9. Remove the two cables sling from the handling fixture and from the hoist equipment.

    10. Turn the handwheel of the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off clockwise to disengage the support from the LP turbine shaft.

    11. Release the support fixture from the inner rear flange of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the support fixture and the expanding retainer from the LP turbine module.
