General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the No.4 bearing compartment scavenge valve from the engine.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

Remove and discard the lockwire before the tubes are disconnected.

The engine must be isolated from starting air supply, fuel supply and electrical power source while you do this procedure.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-081 Disconnect the Electrical Connector and the Air Tube from the No.4 Bearing Compartment Scavenge Valve

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Disconnect the electrical connector 4006EN-A from the valve.

    4. NOTE

      Carefully cut the lockwire not to loosen the bolts of the valve.

      Cut and discard the lockwire which is used to safety the air tube AIR-BEARING COMPARTMENT COOLING & SEALING TUBES (75-22-49, 07-100) and the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) to the two bolts of the valve.

    5. Disconnect the air tube AIR-BEARING COMPARTMENT COOLING & SEALING TUBES (75-22-49, 07-100) from the valve.

    3. WARNING

      DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND IN TO YOUR BODY.

      CAUTION

      DO NOT LET THE ENGINE OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Disconnect the oil tube OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE (79-22-49, 05-100) from the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) and drain oil in to the container.

    4. Loosen all the bolts and the nuts of the clips on the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) to make the oil tube moveable.

    5. Disconnect the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) from the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-100) with IAE 1R18003 Wrench 1 off and drain oil in to the container.

    6. Disconnect the oil tube Engine Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-49, 04-500) from the valve with IAE 1R18003 Wrench 1 off.

    3. NOTE

      Hold the weight of the valve before the bolts are released.

      Remove the three bolts which attach the valve to the de-oiler case and remove the valve. Drain the oil in to the container.

    4. Remove and discard the sealing ring.

    5. Install the applicable covers/caps/plugs to all the openings.
