General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the No.1 bearing support assembly.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Remove the No.1 bearing support assembly with the fan frame installed in the turnover stand. The procedure for the installation of the fan frame in to the stand is given in TASK 72-32-00-030-005 (DISASSEMBLY-005, CONFIG-001 AND CONFIG-002).

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-130-A00 Remove the No. 1 Bearing Support Assembly from the Fan Frame (Pre SBE 72-0391)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the 42 bolts which attach the rear flange of the No. 1 bearing support assembly to the fan frame.

    4. Install the three aligning pins (part of IAE 1J12507 Guide pin 1 off) in to three of the 42 threaded holes in the fan frame flange. The three aligning pins must be installed at approximately 120 degrees apart from each other.

      1. Use the four puller bolts (part of IAE 1J12188 Puller bolt 1 off) to release the No. 1 bearing support from the fan frame.

      2. Install the four puller bolts in to the four threaded holes in the No. 1 bearing support rear flange.

      3. Tighten the four puller bolts equally until the No. 1 bearing support is released from the fan frame.

      4. Remove the puller bolts from the threaded holes in the No. 1 bearing support rear flange.

    5. Lift and remove the No. 1 bearing support assembly from the fan frame. Put the No. 1 bearing support assembly on to the work bench with rear end up.

    6. Remove the two sealing rings from the oil feed tube of the No. 1 bearing support and discard them.

    7. Remove the sealing ring from the groove in the No. 1 bearing support and discard it.

    8. Remove the three aligning pins from the threaded holes in the fan frame.

      SBE 72-0391: New separate type No. 1 bearing support assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the 42 bolts and washers which attach the rear flange of the No. 1 bearing support assembly to the fan frame.

    4. Install the three aligning pins (part of IAE 1J12507 Guide pin 1 off) in to three of the 42 threaded holes in the fan frame flange. The three aligning pins must be installed at approximately 120 degrees apart from each other.

      1. Use the four puller bolts (part of IAE 1J12188 Puller bolt 1 off) to release the No. 1 bearing support from the fan frame.

      2. Install the four puller bolts in to the four threaded holes in the No. 1 bearing support rear flange.

      3. Tighten the four puller bolts equally until the No. 1 bearing support is released from the fan frame.

      4. Remove the puller bolts from the threaded holes in the No. 1 bearing support rear flange.

    5. Lift and remove the No. 1 bearing support assembly from the fan frame. Put the No. 1 bearing support assembly on to the work bench with rear end up.

    6. Remove the two sealing rings from the oil feed tube of the No. 1 bearing support and discard them.

    7. Remove the sealing ring from the groove in the No. 1 bearing support and discard it.

    8. Remove the three aligning pins from the threaded holes in the fan frame.
