Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-03-350-060 Remove the Damaged Rubber Seal from the Fan Frame Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Inspect and identify the damaged strip seal.

      3. Remove the damaged rubber seal without damage to the parent material and remove the compound that remains.

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-03-360-054 Prepare the Mating Surfaces for the Cold Curing Silicone Compound

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Cold liquid degrease the mating surfaces.

    4. Do step A again.

    5. NOTE

      A water-break test is not necessary.

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-03-360-055 Apply and Cure the Cold Curing Silicone Compound

      CAUTION

      DO NOT EAT ANYTHING OR SMOKE AT LOCATIONS WHERE THESE MATERIAL ARE USED.

      CAUTION

      TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION, THE MATING SURFACES MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND AFTER PREPARATION.

      CAUTION

      DO NOT APPLY THE PRIMER TO THE MATING SURFACE OF THE RUBBER SEAL.

      NOTE

      1. The primer must be applied immediately after the mating surfaces are prepared. It is cured at room temperature by contact with the moisture in the air.

      2. If the parts are not used immediately after the primer is applied, they must be kept in polythene bags, but for no longer than 24 hours.

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Apply a thin layer of primer only to the prepared mating surface of the frame. Dry in air for 30 minutes.

      3. Apply the cold curing silicone compound to each of the mating surfaces.

      4. Install the rubber seal to the frame assembly in less than three minutes after the compound is applied.

      1. Apply sufficient pressure to make sure of a good contact and to form a witness of adhesive at all edges.

        Make sure that the compound can be seen around all of the sealed surfaces.

    5. Remove unwanted adhesive compound from the frame.

      6. Cure the compound at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for 48 hours.

      1. Do not apply a load during this time.

    7. NOTE

      The parts can be touched after 12 hours.

    4. SUBTASK 72-32-03-220-090 Examine the Repaired Areas of the Fan Frame Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Dimensionally inspect the position of the repaired rubber seal.

      3. Visually examine the seal.

      1. Make sure that there is not too much adhesive coming out of the bond.

        There must be continuity of bond around the seal.
