Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-350-068 Remove the Defective Timing Pin from the Phonic Wheel Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Examine and identify defective timing pin.

      3. Press out the defective timing pin.

      1. Use hand tools.

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-51-350-077 Prepare the Phonic Wheel Assembly for Timing Pin Replacement

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Examine for damage in bore.

      3. Scratches.

      1. Accept.

    5. Dimensionally examine the pin hole.

      6. If hole diameter is between 0.1178 and 0.1183 in. (2.992 and 3.006 mm).

      1. Accept.

      7. More than in Step.

      1. Repair VRS1978, TASK 72-32-51-300-028 (REPAIR-028).

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-51-230-058 Examine the Phonic Wheel Assembly for Cracks

      NOTE

      This SUBTASK is not required after the part was repaired by VRS1978.

      1. Magnetic particle examine the pin hole.

      1. Make sure there are no cracks in the pin hole.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501.

    4. SUBTASK 72-32-51-380-057 Install the New Timing Pin

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Clean the new timing pin and the pin hole.

      1. Use clean dry air blast or CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH.

      3. WARNING

        APPROPRIATE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING MUST BE WORN WHEN HANDLING LIQUID NITROGEN AND COOLED COMPONENTS.

        Freeze the timing pin.

      1. Freeze the pin to aid replacement into pin hole.

      4. Install and press the timing pin into the pin hole.

      1. Use hand tools.

    5. SUBTASK 72-32-51-220-102 Examine the Pin Seating

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Visually examine the pin seating.

      1. Pin shoulder must be located against flange face.
