General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved penetrating oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all retaining rings, key washers and split cotter pins removed in this procedure.

Refer to Figure for the view of the booster stage bleed valve and actuating mechanism.

This TASK gives the procedure to disassemble the booster stage bleed valve and actuating mechanism.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-70-040-056 Remove the Valve Ring from the Support Ring

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Put the valve and actuating mechanism on a work bench with the support ring down.

    3. Remove the eight retaining rings and pins, which safety the valve ring to the mid arm, with the IAE 1J12208 Puller 1 off. Discard the retaining rings.

    4. Remove the two retaining rings and pins, which safety the valve ring to the lower power arm, with the puller. Discard the retaining rings. Remove the valve ring.

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-70-040-057 Remove the Mid Arms from the Support Ring

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Bend back and remove the eight split cotter pins and discard them.

    3. Remove each castellated nut and washer with a wrench and the IAE 1J12544 TBD 1 off.

    4. Remove the eight mid arms from the support ring.

    5. CAUTION

      DO NOT USE TOOLS TO REMOVE THE BEARING SLEEVES FROM THE SUPPORT RING. DAMAGE TO THE TEFLON LINER ON THE INSIDE OF BEARING SLEEVES CAN OCCUR.

      Remove the 16 bearing sleeves from the support ring.

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-70-040-058 Remove the Power Upper Arms and the Power Lower Arms from the Support Ring

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Bend back the keys on the two washers which safety the nuts to the power arms.

    3. Remove the two nuts and washers with a wrench and the IAE 1J12543 TBD 1 off. Discard the washers.

    4. Remove the power upper arms and the power lower arms from the support ring.

    5. CAUTION

      DO NOT USE TOOLS TO REMOVE THE BEARING SLEEVES FROM THE SUPPORT RING. DAMAGE TO THE TEFLON LINER ON THE INSIDE OF BEARING SLEEVES CAN OCCUR.

      Remove the four bearing sleeves from the support ring.
