Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-055 Remove the Damage from the Splitter Fairing

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Scallop, make smooth and/or hand polish to remove the nicks, scratches and galls.

      2. Use abrasive stones or papers and/or fine files.

        Remove the minimum quantity of material necessary to remove the damage. The surface finish of the repair must be the same as the adjacent area.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-220-064 Examine the Splitter Fairing

      1. Visually examine the repaired area.

      2. Visually examine the repaired area for nicks, scratches and galls.

        Use a 10X magnifying glass.

        Refer to TASK 72-32-93-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-230-052 Examine the Splitter Fairing for Cracks

      1. Fluorescent penetrant examine the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Make sure that there are no cracks in the repaired area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-110-056 Prepare the Splitter Fairing for Surface Protection

      1. Blend the repaired area in to the adjacent surface.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-110-057 Remove the Grease from the Splitter Fairing

      1. Remove the grease from the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-380-051 Apply the Surface Protection to the Splitter Fairing

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating with a brush to the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-380-052 Apply the Heat Resistant E.S. Coating to the Splitter Fairing

      1. Apply the heat resistant E.S. coating to the repaired area of Area A and inner surface of Area 3A, 3B, 4 and 5.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-20-380-501.

        NOTE

        When spraying procedure is used make sure that the coating thickness is 0.0010 to 0.0015 in. (0.025 to 0.038 mm).
      1. Examine the coating surface.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-93-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-056 Identify the Repair

      1. Write VRS1777 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Use a permenant mark.

        Use vibrating pencil.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the marking.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503 (SUBTASK 72-38-02-300-002).
