Common Information

TASK 72-38-11-420-001 Inlet Cone Assembly And Inlet Cone Fairing - Install The Inlet Cone, Installation-001

General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

For standard torque data and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501.

Special torque data and assembly tolerances are included in this procedure.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

To identify, lubricate and install seal rings, refer to the SPM TASK 70-44-00-400-501.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

Transportation covers/blanks must be removed immediately before the installation of the components.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-420-051 Install the Inlet Cone (01-200) and the Trim Balance Weights (if installed)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Align the bolt holes in the inlet cone flange with the bolt holes in the front retaining ring flange.

    4. Make sure that each correlation number of the trim balance weights (if installed) to the front blade retaining ring is aligned.

    5. NOTE

Do not use the six bolt holes adjacent to the six locating pins on the inlet cone flange at this time. These bolt holes and locating pins will be used for the installation of the fairing.
Install the trim balance weights to the bolt holes which is identified in TASK 72-38-11-020-001 (REMOVAL).
If a bolt hole without a trim balance is found, install a washer (01-215) to each hole.

Attach the inlet cone to the front retaining ring with 18 bolts (01-200), the washers (01-215) and the trim balance weights (if installed).

      1. Torque the 18 bolts to 180 to 220 lbfin (20.00 to 25.00 Nm) in the sequence given in the subsequent steps.

      2. Torque the first pair of bolts 180 degrees apart.

      3. Torque the second pair of bolts 90 degrees and 270 degrees from the first bolt.

      4. Do in turn 180/90 degree pattern and torque the remaining bolts.

      5. Do the Step, Step and Step again to make sure all the bolts are at the necessary torque of 180 to 220 lbfin (20.00 to 25.00 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-420-052-A00 Install the Fairing (01-100) on the Inlet Cone

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Align the six aligning holes in the fairing with the six locating pins on the inlet cone flange.

    4. Attach the fairing to the inlet cone with the six bolts (01-130).

      1. Torque the six bolts to 180 to 220 lbfin (20.00 to 25.00 Nm) in the sequence given in the subsequent steps.

      2. Torque the first two bolts 180 degrees apart.

      3. Torque the second two bolts 60 degrees and 240 degrees apart from the first bolt.

      4. Torque the remaining two bolts.

    5. Use a clean cloth, made moist with the CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL and erase all the correlation numbers (if written) on the outer surface of the front blade retaining ring.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-420-052-B00 Install the Fairing (01-100) on the Inlet Cone,

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Lubricate the faces on the six strip seals of the fairing with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

    4. Align the six aligning holes in the fairing with the six locating pins on the inlet cone flange.

    5. Attach the fairing to the inlet cone with the six bolts (01-130).

      1. Torque the six bolts to 180 to 220 lbfin. (20.00 to 25.00 Nm) in the sequence given in subsequent steps.

      2. Torque the first two bolts 180 degrees apart.

      3. Torque the second two bolts 60 degrees apart and 240 degrees apart rom the first bolt.

      4. Torque the remaining two bolts.

    6. Use a clean cloth, made moist with the CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL and erase all the correlation numbers (if written) on the outer surfaces of the front blade retaining ring.
