Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-230-090 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

      3. Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-350-057 Remove the Damage

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove small areas of damage as necessary.

      2. The diameter of the area removed is to be 50 times the depth of the damage.

      3. The maximum depth to be removed must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

      4. Use standard workshop equipment with CoMat 05-106 ABRASIVE STONE and/or CoMat 05-111 EMERY POLISHING PAPER.

      5. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

      1. Blend the area of repair.

      2. Remove all the sharp corners.

      3. Use standard workshop equipment with CoMat 05-106 ABRASIVE STONE and/or CoMat 05-111 EMERY POLISHING PAPER.

      4. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

      1. Polish the area of repair.

      2. Polish the repaired area to remove scratches.

      3. Make sure that the surface finish is the same as the adjacent material.

      4. Use standard workshop equipment with CoMat 05-110 EMERY POLISHING PAPER and/or CoMat 05-111 EMERY POLISHING PAPER.

      5. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-220-074 Examine the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual and dimensional inspection.

      2. Use workshop inspection equipment.

      3. Make sure the surface finish is the same as the adjacent material.

      4. Make sure the maximum depth of the repaired area is not more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) and the diameter of the repair must not be more than 0.250 in. (6.35 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-230-091 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

      3. Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-11-110-084 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the repaired areas to remove fluorescent penetrant.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

      3. Use chemical cleaning equipment.
