This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-21 Inspection/Check.

The TASK gives the procedure to repair or replace worn or damaged spacer(s) in the HP compressor stage 7 case and stage 8 rotor path case assembly.

TASKS identified by SPM TASK are in the Standard Practices and Processes Manual (SPM).

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-110-235 Chemically Clean

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Chemically clean the part.

    4. Refer to TASK 72-41-21-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

      Do the degreasing procedure, refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503 and SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-112 Remove Loose or Damaged Spacers

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove loose or damaged spacers.

      2. Use a drift or locally made extractor and standard workshop equipment.

      1. Remove burrs around the location hole(s).

      2. Use a lint-free cloth and a dry air blow.

      1. Clean the hole(s).

      2. Use a lint-free cloth and a dry air blow.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-220-268 Examine the HP Compressor Stage 7 Case and Stage 8 Rotor Path Case Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine and measure the location hole and fitting spacer spigot diameter to find interference fit.

      2. Use workshop inspection equipment.

        If the interference fit is more than the limits, reject.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-230-114 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test around the location holes.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-113-A00 Install the Spacer(s) (UP11143 and UP11144), Assembly A

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Freeze the spacer(s).

      2. Use spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-513), 10 off or spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-514), 10 off as necessary.

        Use locally made freeze plug.

      1. Install the spacer(s) into the location hole(s).

      2. Make sure that the spacer is pushed fully into position before the temperature of the spacer and the case assembly become the same.

        Use an applicable installation tool.

        Use heat protective gloves.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-113-B00 Install the Spacer(s) (UP11143 and UP60487), Assembly B

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Freeze the spacer(s).

      2. Use spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-513), 10 off or spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-514), 10 off as necessary.

        Use locally made freeze plug.

      1. Install the spacer(s) into the location hole(s).

      2. Make sure that the spacer is pushed fully into position before the temperature of the spacer and the case assembly become the same.

        Use an applicable installation tool.

        Use heat protective gloves.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-113-C00 Install the Spacer(s) (UP60548 and UP60477), Assembly C

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Freeze the spacer(s).

      2. Use spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-513), 10 off or spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-514), 10 off as necessary.

        Use locally made freeze plug.

      1. Install the spacer(s) into the location hole(s).

      2. Make sure that the spacer is pushed fully into position before the temperature of the spacer and the case assembly become the same.

        Use an applicable installation tool.

        Use heat protective gloves.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-21-350-113-D00 Install the Spacer(s) (UP11948), Assembly D and Assembly E

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Freeze the spacer(s).

      2. Use spacer HPC Ring Cases And Related Parts (72-41-21,03-814), 10 off as necessary.

        Use a locally made freeze plug.

      1. Install the spacer(s) into the location hole(s).

      2. Make sure that the spacer is pushed fully into position before the temperature of the spacer and the case assembly become the same.

        Use an applicable installation tool.

        Use heat protective gloves.
