This Repair must only be done when the instructions to do so is given in 72-41-31 Inspection/Check-XXX.

This TASK gives the procedure to repair surface damage on the HP compressor stage 6 rotor path ring segment by material removal.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK number are in the SPM

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-230-100 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test on the area(s) to be repaired.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-350-055 Remove the Damage

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove and blend area(s) of damage as necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

        The repaired area(s) is to be 50 times the depth.

        Make sure a smooth blend into the adjacent material.

        Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. Polish the area(s) of repair.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Use standard workshop equipment.

        Polish the repaired area(s) to give a surface finish the same as the adjacent material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-220-283 Examine the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual and dimensional inspection.

      2. Make sure the surface finish is the same as the adjacent material.

        The maximum depth of the repair must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm) and the diameter must not be more than 0.250 in. (6.35 mm).

        Use workshop inspection equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-110-100 Do a Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Swab etch the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-39-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-39-300-001.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-220-222 Binocular Examine

      1. Binocular examine the repaired area(s).

      2. Use X10 binoculars.

        Indications of surface defects are not permitted.

        Make sure that there is no raised metal remaining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-230-101 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test on the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Use Comat 06-022 fluorescent penetrant (post-emulsified ultra high sensitivity).

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-110-101 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the repaired area(s) to remove fluorescent penetrant.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.
