This repair must only be done when instruction to do so is given in 72-41-33 Inspection/Check.

This repair allows worn/damaged bush location hole(s) in the HP compressor VIGV, stage 3, 4 and 5 inner shroud ring assemblies, be repaired by the installation of oversize bush(es).

The practices and processes referred to in the procedures by the TASK/SUBTASK numbers are in the SPM.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-220-131 Examine the HP Compressor Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE INNER SHROUD RING ASSEMBLIES, TOGETHER AS A MATCHED SET.

      Visually examine and measure the dimensions of the HP Compressor VIGV, Stage 3, 4 and 5 Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies to determine if they can be repaired.

      1. Airswept surface wear.

      2. Maximum limit of wear is 0.012in.(0.3048 mm).

      1. Counterbore bush location wear.

      2. Maximum limit of wear is 0.025in. (0.635 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-350-077 Remove Damage from the HP Compressor VIGV, Stage 3, 4 and 5 Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove, high spots and burrs, from the HP Compressor VIGV, Stage 3, 4 and 5 Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies, airswept surfaces and counterbore bush location holes.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Blend wear/damage to depth and make sure the repair area is made smooth with adjacent material and there are no scratches.

        Do not remove more material than is necessary.

        The maximum depth of material removal on the airswept surface is 0.012in. (0.3048 mm) and the countebore bush location hole(s) 0.025in. (0.635 mm).

        Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. Polish the repair area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Polish the repaired area to remove scratches and to give a surface finish the same as the adjacent material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-110-058 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the HP Compressor VIGV, Stage 3, 4 and 5 Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-320-051 Machine Worn/Damaged Bush Location holes, in the HP Compressor VIGV, Stage 3, 4 and 5 Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies

      CAUTION

      MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE INNER SHROUD RING ASSEMBLIES, TOGETHER AS A MATCHED SET.
    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Set up the HP compressor VIGV, stage 3, 4 and/or stage 5 inner shroud ring assemblies in the machine.

    3. Machine the bush location holes, oversize as necessary.

      1. HP compressor VIGV inner shroud ring assembly.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        Machine diameter AR oversize, as necessary.

        Use a vertical boring machine.

        Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. HP compressor stage 3 inner shroud ring assembly.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        Machine diameter AE oversize, as necessary.

        Use a vertical boring machine.

        Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. HP compressor stage 4 inner shroud ring assembly.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        Machine diameter AJ oversize, as necessary.

        Use a vertical boring machine.

        Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. HP compressor stage 5 inner shroud ring assembly.

      1. Do a penetrant crack test of the repaired area(s).

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-220-132 Examine the HP Compressor Inner Shroud Ring Assemblies

        Make a mark VRS6631 adjacent to part number.

        Use vibro-engraving equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-380-059 Apply Surface Protection

      1. Chemically touch-up the repaired surface(s) of the HP. Compressor VIGV, Stage 3 and 4 VSV Inner Shroud Assemblies.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-350-079 Install Oversize Bush(es)

    2. Install standard or oversize bush(es), by selective assembly, as necessary.
