This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in TASK 72-41-33 Inspection/Check.

This repair has been issued to replace worn pins in the HP compressor stage 4 inner shroud.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-020-001-A00 Remove the Dowel Pins, Assembly A

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove the half shrouds from each other.

      2. Make a note of the position of the correlation marks of the matched set.

      1. Remove the worn dowel pins.

      2. Remove the pins with a drift and discard the pins.

      1. Remove the sharp edges around the location holes.

      2. Use hand tools.

      1. WARNING

        BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE COMPRESSED AIR. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND GOGGLES. MAKE SURE THAT ALL PERSONS ARE AT A SAFE DISTANCE.

        Clean the holes.

      2. Use CoMat 02-099 LINT-FREE CLOTH and blast with clean dry compressed air.

      1. Do a visual and dimensional inspection.

      2. Make sure the fits and clearances for the pins are satisfactory.

        Examine the holes for burred edges or scoring. Reject the part if damage is found.

        Examine the rear shroud interference fit dowel hole for wear. If the diameter of the hole is between 0.1963 to 0.1970 in. (4.987 to 5.005 mm) continue with the repair.

        Reject the part if the diameter is more than to 0.1970 in. (5.005 mm).

        Examine the front shroud clearance fit dowel hole for wear. If the diameter of the hole is between 0.200 to 0.201 in. (5.07 to 5.10 mm) continue with the repair.

        Reject the part if the diameter is more than 0.201 in. (5.10 mm).

    2. Refer to Figureand Figure.

      1. Install the retaining rings to the dowel pins.

      2. Push the retaining ring over the pin until it engages in the groove.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT GET LIQUID NITROGEN ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GLOVES, GOGGLES AND A MASK. LIQUID NITROGEN IS AN ASPHYXIATOR. USE THE LIQUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. IF YOU GET THE LIQUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL HELP IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.

        Install the dowel pins into the half shrouds.

      2. Freeze the pins with CoMat 03-026 LIQUID NITROGEN.

        Use an applicable installation tool to install the pins in position.

        Use heat-protection gloves.

      1. Replace the half shrouds.

      2. Assemble the half shrouds together.

        Make sure the correlation marks are aligned.

    2. Refer to Figureand Figure.

      1. Install the retaining rings to the dowel pins.

      2. Push the retaining ring over the pin until it engages in the groove.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT GET LIQUID NITROGEN ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GLOVES, GOGGLES AND A MASK. LIQUID NITROGEN IS AN ASPHYXIATOR. USE THE LIQUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. IF YOU GET THE LIQUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL HELP IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.

        Install the dowel pins into the half shrouds.

      2. Freeze the pins with CoMat 03-026 LIQUID NITROGEN.

        Use an applicable installation tool to install the pins in position.

        Use heat-protection gloves.

      1. Replace the half shrouds.

      2. Assemble the half shrouds together.

        Make sure the correlation marks are aligned.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-350-086 Identify the Repair

      CAUTION

      MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE INNER SHROUD RING ASSEMBLIES TOGETHER AS A MATCHED SET.
      1. Make a mark VRS6677 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.

        Use vibro-engraving equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-33-380-060 Apply the Surface Protection

      1. Locally touch up the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.
