This Repair must only be done when the instruction is given in TASK 72-41-34 Inspection/Check.

This Repair has been issued for the HP compressor adaptable crankshaft assembly insert replacement.

This repair scheme is to replace the inserts when they are broken, worn, cross threaded or missing. The inserts to be replaced are No. 10 0.190 inch diameter, 32 threads per inch, screw lock type.

Where reference is made to a SUBTASK within a TASK in the form.TASK, SUBTASK" the operator must read and apply the complete TASK. The SUBTASK is listed only when the TASK gives options for the processing of the component. The specified SUBTASK instructs what option must be used during application of the TASK for the successful completion of the repair scheme VRS6258.

TASKS identified by SPM TASK are in the Standard Practices Manual (SPM).

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-058 Remove the Damaged Helicoil Insert

      1. Remove the damaged helicoil insert.

      2. The SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501 SUBTASK 70-35-08-350-001.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-084-001 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect

      1. Do a crack test of the threads on the holes the helicoil inserts were removed from.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

          1. If cracking is detected.

          2. Reject.

          1. If no cracking is detected.

          2. Continue with the repair.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-059 Install the Helicoil Insert

      1. Install the helicoil insert.

      2. The SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501 SUBTASK 70-35-08-350-002.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-084-001 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a crack test on the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

      1. Do a visual inspection for cracking or other defect indications of the helicoil insert and the surrounding area of the HP Compressor Vane Actuating Crankshaft.

          1. If any defects are detected.

          2. Reject.

          1. If no defects are detected.

          2. Continue with the repair.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-220-188 Do an Inspection of the Helicoil Inserts

      1. Do an inspection of the helicoil inserts.

      2. The SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501 SUBTASK 70-35-08-220-001.

        1. If the wirethread is not in a satisfactory condition.

        2. Repeat the repair from Step.

        1. If the wirethread insert is in a satisfactory condition.

        2. Continue with the repair.
