This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-34 Inspection/Check.

This repair is to replace the helicoil insert(s) when they are broken, worn, cross threaded or missing.

The helicoil insert(s) to be replaced are 0.250 inch diameter, 28 threads per screw lock type.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-128 Remove the Damaged Helicoil Insert(s)

      1. Remove the damaged helicoil insert(s).

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501, SUBTASK 70-35-08-350-001.

        Use approved workshop equipment.

    2. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-129 Install the Helicoil Insert(s)

      1. Install the Helicoil Insert(s).

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501, SUBTASK 70-35-08-350-002.

        Use AGS3732 , 2 off, as necessary.

        Use approved workshop equipment.

    3. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-107 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test on the repaired area.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    4. SUBTASK 72-41-34-220-264 Examine the Helicoil Insert(s)

      1. Examine the helicoil insert(s).

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501, SUBTASK 70-35-08-220-001.
