Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-114 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-41-34-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-081 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-081 Remove the Damaged Areas

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENTS - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENTS - DO NOT USE FORCE WITH MECHANICAL CUTTERS OR THE MATERIAL WILL BECOME TOO HOT.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENTS - MAXIMUM SPEED FOR MECHANICAL TOOLS MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 1000 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENTS - YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU REMOVE MATERIAL, BLEND AND POLISH, TO MAKE SMOOTH THAT NO SPARKS ARE CAUSED.

      CAUTION

      TITANIUM COMPONENTS - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR, TO A DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, REJECT THE COMPONENT.
    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove small area(s) of damage as necessary.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

        The diameter of the area removed is to be 50 times the depth.

        Make sure the damage marks are fully removed.

      1. Blend the area of the repair.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Remove the sharp corners and the sudden changes of the slope.

      1. Polish the area of the repair.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

        Polish the repaired area to remove the scratches and to give a surface finish the same as the adjacent material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-220-212 Examine the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual and dimensional inspection.

      2. Make sure the surface finish is the same as the adjacent material.

        The maximum depth of the repaired area must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).

        Use workshop inspection equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-115 Do a Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-001.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Swab etch the repaired area(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-002.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-230-163 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-165 Identify the Repair

      1. Vibro-engrave VRS6189 on the part adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.

        Use vibro-engraving equipment.
