Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-059-001 Remove the Loose or Damaged Clinch Nut from the Diffuser Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Drill the flared shank on the damaged clinch nut.

      2. CAUTION

        TAKE EXTREME CARE WHEN YOU DRILL OR DAMAGE TO THE FLANGE CAN OCCUR.

        Drill the center of the flared shank with a drill bit that is smaller than the outer diameter of the nut. Do not make the hole larger.

      1. Remove the nut from the flange hole.

      2. Use a standard punch to remove the nut.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-059-002 Remove the Loose or Damaged Clinch Nut from the Diffuser Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the damaged clinch nut from the flange hole on the diffuser case.

      2. CAUTION

        TAKE EXTREME CARE WHEN YOU HIT BOLT OR DAMAGE TO THE FLANGE CAN OCCUR.

        Install a 0.250-28 work bolt in the first two or three threads of the nut on the flared side. Lightly hit the work bolt to push the nut out of the flange hole.

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Clean the repair area by SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-230-072 Examine the Clinch Nut Holes

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Do a fluorescent penetrant inspection of the holes and the adjacent surfaces by SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501, high sensitivity.

    4. Do a visual inspection of the holes and the adjacent surfaces. Damage is not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-060 Install the Clinch Nut in the Diffuser Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the new clinch nut in the flange hole on the diffuser case.

      1. Flare the nut.

      2. Use a standard 30 degree conical flaring tool. Do not thread the flaring tool into the part of the nut that is self-locking.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-070 Examine the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Examine the nut by the dimension given in the figure.

      2. The flared end of the nut must be equal to or below Surface C.

    3. Do a visual inspection of the installed nuts for cracks. Cracks are not permitted.
