Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-098 Remove the Inserts, if Applicable from the Diffuser Case Ps3 Boss

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Remove loose or damaged inserts from the diffuser case.

      1. Use PN 1227-16 removal tool.

    2. SUBTASK 72-42-11-320-072 Machine the Damaged Threads

      CAUTION

      THE WALL THICKNESS OF THE BOSSES CANNOT BE DECREASED BELOW 0.130 IN. (3.302 MM) FROM THE MINOR DIAMETER OF THE THREADS AT LOCATION B.

    1. Refer to: Figure

      2. Machine the damaged threads to a minor diameter of 0.5745 to 0.5826 in. (14.592 to 14.798 mm).

      1. The hole must be in 0.010 in. (0.254 mm) diameter of true position in relation to Surface A and the initial location of the damaged thread minor diameter.

    3. Machine the lead-in chamfer of 120 degrees for a diameter of 0.620 to 0.650 in. (15.748 to 16.510 mm).

      4. Tap the hole and remove the chips.

      1. Use PN 38193-9 plug tap.

    3. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-089 Examine the Threads

      1. Examine the threads after you tap them.

      1. Use PN 1694-9 thread plug gage.

    4. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-099 Install the New Helical Coil Inserts

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Put the PN 1191-9TN375 insert into the tip of the PN 535-9 insertion tool.

    3. Put the insert into the threaded hole.

    4. Turn the handle clockwise so the top of the insert is three quarters to one and a half pitch below the face of the boss.

      5. Break the tang of the insert at the notch.

      1. Use needle nose pliers to remove the tang.

    5. SUBTASK 72-42-11-220-090 Examine the Repair

      1. Examine the new inserts.

      1. Refer to TASK 72-42-11-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

    6. SUBTASK 72-42-11-350-100 Mark the Part

      1. Mark the repair number VRS3715 on the diffuser case adjacent to the part number.

      1. Mark the part by the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        NOTE

        If the VRS number is marked on the part, do not mark the repair number again.

        Use the vibration peen method.
