General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and keywashers removed in this procedure.

Refer to TASK 72-50-00-990-501 for a sectional view of the LP turbine module.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-060 Remove the Turbine Exhaust Case

      NOTE

      Make sure that the IAE 1F10101 Counter weights kit 1 off is installed on the IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand 1 off. Do not move the stand with the installed LP turbine case and rotor without the counterweights kit.

    1. Remove the turbine exhaust case. Refer to TASK 72-50-00-030-001.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-061 Prepare the LP Turbine Module without Turbine Exhaust Case for Removal

      CAUTION

      HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU LOOSEN AND REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE SHAFT/DISK FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED BY SCORES.

      NOTE

      Make sure that the LP turbine module without turbine exhaust case is installed vertically in the IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand.

    1. Loosen the 20 nuts at the flange of the stage 6 turbine disk.

    2. Remove the 20 bolts and nuts which attach the rear flange of the LP turbine shaft to the stage 6 turbine disk.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-073-A00 Remove the Stage 6 Inner Turbine Air Seal (Pre SBE 72-0626)

      CAUTION

      DO NOT DAMAGE THE KNIFE EDGE SEALS OF THE STAGE 6 INNER TURBINE AIR SEAL.

      NOTE

      Measure the hub diameter of stage 7 disk before you install the hydraulic puller.
      If the inner hub diameter is 12.447 to 12.435 in. (315.85 to 316.15 mm) use the IAE 1M14462 Hydraulic Puller.
      If the inner hub diameter is 12.589 to 12.600 in. (319.75 to 320.05 mm) use the IAE 1M14149 Hydraulicpuller.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Install the immobilizer of the IAE 1M14149 Hydraulicpuller 1 off or IAE 1M14462 Hydraulic Puller 1 off to the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    3. Release the knurled screws of the three clamps.

    4. Turn the knurled nuts at the end of the three threaded rods to the rear position.

    5. Move the threaded rods in to the inner position of the slots of the guide.

    6. Put the threaded rods to the inner position of the slots of the LP turbine shaft.

    7. Move the threaded rods to the outer position of the slots of the guide. The three jaws touch the stage 6 LP turbine air seal.

    8. Tighten the three jaws with three knurled screws. Tighten by hand.

    9. Tighten the three knurled nuts at the rear end of the threaded rods. Make sure that the locating dog of the jaws touches the stage 6 turbine air seal. Tighten again the knurled screws of the clamps by hand.

    10. Put the retaining plate on top of the stage 7 LP turbine disk. The three tie-rods must go through the stage 6 LP turbine disk and the LP turbine shaft. Tighten the three hexagonal nuts with the spanner.

    11. Install the retaining flange to the hydraulic cylinder.

    12. Install the retaining flange with the hydraulic cylinder to the guide. Turn the retaining flange and hydrualic cylinder to safety the flange to the cylinder.

      NOTE

      Make sure that the hydraulic cylinder is correctly installed to the retaining flange.

    13. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic cylinder.

    14. Operate the hydraulic pump to disconnect the stage 6 inner turbine air seal from the stage 6 LP turbine disk.

      15. Remove the hydraulic puller.

      1. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the cylinder.

      2. Release the three tie-rods and remove the retaining plate from the stage 6 LP turbine disk.

      3. Remove the retaining flange with the hydraulic cylinder from the guide. Disassemble the retaining flange and the hydraulic cylinder.

      4. Release the knurled screws of the clamps. Turn the knurled nuts of the three threaded rods, so that the hooks of the jaws disengage with the stage 6 inner turbine air seal.

      5. Move the threaded rods in the oblong holes to the inner position. Remove the guide with the jaws from the immobilizer.

      6. Remove the immobilizer.

    16. Remove the stage 6 inner turbine air seal.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-073-B00 Remove the Stage 6 Inner Turbine Air Seal (SBE 72-0626)

      CAUTION

      DO NOT DAMAGE THE KNIFE EDGE SEALS OF THE STAGE 6 INNER TURBINE AIR SEAL.

    1. NOTE

      Measure the hub diameter of stage 7 disk before you install the hydraulic puller.
      If the inner hub diameter is 12.447 to 12.435 in. (315.85 to 316.15 mm) use the IAE 1M14462 Hydraulic Puller.
      If the inner hub diameter is 12.589 to 12.600 in. (319.75 to 320.05 mm) use the IAE 1M14149 Hydraulicpuller.

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the immobilizer of the IAE 1M14149 Hydraulicpuller 1 off or IAE 1M14462 Hydraulic Puller 1 off to the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    4. Install the IAE 1M14152 Removal Claw 1 off on to the stage 6 inner airseal. Turn the baseplate with the claws until the five lugs are fully engaged with the pulling lands of the stage 6 inner airseal.

    5. Turn the knurled nuts at the end of the three threaded rods to the rear position.

    6. Move the threaded rods in to the inner position of the slots of the guide.

    7. Tighten the three knurled nuts at the rear end of the threaded rods.

    8. Put the retaining plate on top of the stage 7 LP turbine disk. The three tie-rods must go through the stage 6 LP turbine disk and the LP turbine shaft. Tighten the three hexagonal nuts with the spanner.

    9. Install the retaining flange to the hydraulic cylinder.

    10. Install the retaining flange with the hydraulic cylinder to the guide. Turn the retaining flange and hydraulic cylinder to safety the flange to the cylinder.

      NOTE

      Make sure that the hydraulic cylinder is correctly installed to the retaining flange.

    11. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic cylinder.

    12. Operate the hydraulic pump to disconnect the stage 6 inner turbine air seal from the stage 6 LP turbine disk.

      13. Remove the hydraulic puller.

      1. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the cylinder.

      2. Remove the retaining flange with the hydraulic cylinder from the guide. Disassemble the retaining flange and the hydraulic cylinder.

      3. Release the three tie-rods and remove the retaining plate from the stage 7 LP turbine disk.

      4. Release the knurled nuts of the three threaded rods. Move the rods in to the inner position of the slots of the guide.

      5. Turn the knurled nuts at the three threaded rods to the front position.

      6. Disengage the removal claw from the five pulling lands.

      7. Remove the guide with the removal claw from the immobilizer.

      8. Remove the immobilizer.

    14. Remove the stage 6 inner turbine air seal.

    15. Remove the damper ring from the stage 6 inner turbine airseal. Use circlip pliers to spread the damper ring.

    5. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-062 Install the Hydraulic Puller-Pusher

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Install the IAE 1M14007 Hydraulic puller- pusher 1 off to the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    6. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-074 Install the Support Fixture in to the Lifting Fixture

    1. Use hoist equipment.

    2. Engage the IAE 1M14000 Lifting fixture 1 off on to the IAE 1M14001 Support fixture 1 off. Turn back the three guide sleeves, part of the lifting fixture, until the support fixture touches the lifting fixture.

    3. Attach the tool assembly with the three nuts on the guide sleeves.

    4. Turn the hooks of the six clamps to the inner. The hooks must point in the same direction as the rear dowel pins.

    7. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-063 Install the Assembled Fixture

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Loosen the three nuts of the IAE 1M14001 Support fixture. Turn back the three guide sleeves of the IAE 1M14000 Lifting fixture. Safety with the three nuts.

    3. Use hoist equipment and lift the assembled fixture with the chain shackles.

    4. Install the IAE 1M14125 Guide pin 1 off to the support fixture.

    5. Install them to the LP turbine case and rotor. Observe the Top mark and the dowel pin on the rear flange of the LP turbine case. During installation, make sure that the end of the guide pin engage through a hole of the inner flange of the stage 6 disk at the top position.

    6. Attach the lifting fixture to the rear flange of the LP turbine case. Use the 19 head capscrews and plaster washers. Tighten the screws.

    7. Loosen the three nuts. Turn down the three guide sleeves until the support fixture touches the rear face of the stage 6 disk connecting flange.

    8. Turn the six clamps out and attach them with the knurled nuts. Make sure that all the hooks of the clamps engage the front flange of the stage 6 disk.

    9. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THE SUPPORT FIXTURE IS CORRECTLY LOCKED ON THE LIFTING FIXTURE. IF THE FIXTURES ARE NOT CORRECTLY LOCKED THE LP TURBINE CASE AND ROTOR PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED DURING HANDLING OF THE LP TURBINE ASSEMBLY.

      Tighten the three nuts of the IAE 1M14001 Support fixture.

    8. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-064 Install the Hydraulic Basic Fixture

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Install the flange (part of IAE 1M14057 Hydraulic basic fixture 1 off) to the IAE 1M14001 Support fixture.

      NOTE

      The word "disassembly" on the flange must be in the top position.

    3. Lock the flange to the support fixture with the six screws.

      NOTE

      The thread of the hydraulic cylinder must be in the bottom position.

    4. Turn the hydraulic cylinder on to the flange.

    5. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic coupler.

    9. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-065 Disconnect the LP Turbine Shaft from the LP Turbine Rotor

      1. Turn the locating fixture (part of IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand) down as follows:

      1. Turn the bush upwards to get the front end of the LP turbine shaft radially free.

      2. Turn the locknut approximately 0.276 in. (7.0 mm) down.

      3. Turn the lockring approximately 0.276in. (7.0 mm) down. Safety the lockring position with the locknut.

    2. Operate the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump to release the LP turbine shaft from the LP turbine rotor.

      3. Remove the IAE 1M14057 Hydraulic basic fixture as follows, refer to Figure.

      1. Disconnect the hydraulic pump.

      2. Remove the hydraulic cylinder.

      3. Remove the flange.

    10. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-066-A00 V2500-A1: Remove the LP Turbine Case and Rotor from the LP Turbine Shaft

      1. Release the LP turbine case from the IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand, refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the eight bolts, nuts and washers which attach the LP turbine case front flange to the vertical stand.

      2. Remove the four outer head capscrews which attach the IAE 1M14127 Support plate 2 off to the LP turbine case front flange.

      3. Attach the support plates with the four head capscrews at the vertical stand. Tighten the screws.

      4. Remove the other 10 head capscrews which attach the support plates to the LP turbine case front flange.

    2. Lift the LP turbine case and rotor until it is free from the LP turbine shaft.

    3. Remove the LP turbine case and rotor from the vertical stand and install it to the IAE 1M14009 Storage stand 1 off.

    4. Attach the LP turbine case to the storage stand with the four clamp straps and the wing nuts (parts of the storage stand).

    11. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-066-B00 V2500-A5: Remove the LP Turbine Case and Rotor from the LP Turbine Shaft

      1. Release the LP turbine case from the IAE 1F10049 Vertical stand, refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the eight bolts, nuts and washers which attaches the LP turbine case front flange to the vertical stand.

      2. Remove the four outer head capscrews which attaches the IAE 1M14146 Support plate 2 off to the LP turbine case front flange.

      3. Attach the support plates with the four head capscrews at the vertical stand. Tighten the screws.

      4. Remove the other 10 head capscrews which attaches the support plates to the LP turbine case front flange.

    2. Lift the LP turbine case and rotor until it is free from the LP turbine shaft.

    3. Remove the LP turbine case and rotor from the vertical stand and install it to the IAE 1M14009 Storage stand 1 off.

    4. Attach the LP turbine case to the storage stand with the four clamp straps and the wing nuts (parts of the storage stand).

    12. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-067 Remove the Lifting Fixture

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Loosen the six knurled nuts and turn the six clamps to release the six hooks from the stage 6 turbine disk.

    3. Deleted.

    4. Remove the 19 screws which attach the IAE 1M14000 Lifting fixture to the rear flange of the LP turbine case.

    5. Remove the lifting fixture.

    6. Remove the guide pin from the support fixture.

    13. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-075 Disassemble the Lifting Fixture and the Support Fixture

    1. Remove the guide pin.

    2. Remove the three nuts on the guide sleeves.

    3. Use hoist equipment. Disengage the lifting fixture from the support fixture.

    4. Put the lifting fixture and the support fixture on a storage stand.

    14. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-068 Install the Protective Cover to the LP Turbine Case and Rotor

    1. Install the IAE 1M14082 Protective cover 1 off to the LP turbine case and rotor.

    2. Attach the protective cover with the eight bolts and nuts to the rear flange of the LP turbine case.

    15. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-069 Remove the Hydraulic Puller-Pusher from the LP Turbine Shaft

    1. Remove the IAE 1M14007 Hydraulic puller- pusher from the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    16. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-070-A00 V2500-A1: Install the LP Turbine Shaft in to the Storage Stand

    1. Install the IAE 1J12202 Rear sling 1 off to the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    2. Attach a hoist to the rear sling.

    3. Remove the IAE 1M14127 Support plate 2 off from the vertical stand.

    4. Lift and remove the LP turbine shaft from the vertical stand.

    5. Install the IAE 1J12201 Front sling 1 off to the front end of the LP turbine shaft.

    6. Attach a second hoist to the front sling.

    7. Adjust the two hoists to turn the LP turbine shaft from vertical to horizontal.

      8. Install the LP turbine shaft on to the IAE 1J12212 Storage stand 1 off.

      1. Move the LP turbine shaft above the storage stand.

      2. Lower the LP turbine shaft on to the storage stand.

      3. Safety the LP turbine shaft with the two covers, washers and wing nuts of the storage stand.

    9. Remove the front sling and the rear sling from the LP turbine shaft. Remove the slings from the two hoists.

    10. Turn the lock nut and the lockring, parts of the vertical stand, in the down position.

    17. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-070-B00 V2500-A5: Install the LP Turbine Shaft in to the Storage Stand

    1. Install the IAE 1J12202 Rear sling 1 off to the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    2. Attach a hoist to the rear sling.

    3. Remove the IAE 1M14146 Support plate 2 off from the rear vertical stand.

    4. Lift and remove the LP turbine shaft from the vertical stand.

    5. Install the IAE 1J12201 Front sling 1 off to the front end of the LP turbine shaft.

    6. Attach a second hoist to the front sling.

    7. Adjust the two hoists to turn the LP turbine shaft from vertical to horizontal.

      8. Install the LP turbine shaft on to the IAE 1J12212 Storage stand 1 off.

      1. Move the LP turbine shaft above the storage stand.

      2. Lower the LP turbine shaft on to the storage stand.

      3. Safety the LP turbine shaft with the two covers, washers and wing nuts of the storage stand.

    9. Remove the front sling and the rear sling from the LP turbine shaft. Remove the slings from the two hoists.

    10. Turn the lock nut and the lockring, parts of the vertical stand, in the down position.
