Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-110-147 Prepare the Surfaces before Weld Repair

      1. Clean the surfaces to be welded.

      2. Use silicon rag or equivalent.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-230-102 Examine Surfaces to be Welded

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-110-148 Clean the Support Ring Assembly

      1. Aqueous degrease.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-34-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-310-065 Weld Repair the Worn Surfaces

      1. Build up surfaces. Use manual tungsten inert gas weld technique.

      2. Refer to Figure and the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

Deposit enough material to permit final machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-370-059 Heat Treat after Weld repair

      1. Heat treat the component.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-00-370-501.

Put in an oven for two hours at 1575 to 1625 deg. F (857 to 885 deg. C).

        Use argon or vacuum.

Cooloing rate equivalent to air cooling.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-230-103 Examine the Welded Areas for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

Fine surface cracks are permitted as follows:

An unlimited number of linear/non-linear discontinuities are permitted in the weld material and heat affected zones as long as they do not extend to an edge.

Maximum length of linear discontinuities is 0.050in. (1.27 mm).

The maximum length if non-linear discontinuities is 0.020in. (0.50 mm).

      1. Clean the component.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-34-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-320-062 Machine the Welded Areas

      1. Machine the welded area.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Dress all surplus weld to original contours.

      2. Welded areas must be blended in to the adjacent surfaces.

Surface finish must be the same as adjacent surface.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-220-184 Examine Machined Area

      1. Dimensionally examine the component.

      2. Refer to Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-230-104 Examine the Machined Area for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

Only cracks refered to in Step are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-24-110-149 Clean the Component

      1. Clean the duct segment.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-34-300-503.
