Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-25-350-053 General Instructions for the Blend Repair of the Outer Diffuser Assembly Segment

      1. Blend the nicks, dents and the pits of outer diffuser assembly segment.

      1. Use files and stones to remove the nicks, dents and pits.

      2. Polish the blended areas.

      1. Use fine stones to make the blended surface as smooth as the initial surface.

        Edges and corners are not permitted.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-25-350-054 Blend Repair the Outer Diffuser Assembly Segment

      NOTE

      1. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

      2. For the local blending use a length to depth ratio of 5:1 minimum. Refer to Figure.

      3. Unless specified differently, there is no limit for the number of blends. If there is a number of damage marks together, blend the whole area to the specified depth. The minimum distance between the blends is 0.500in. (12.7 mm).

      1. Blend repair in area A1.

      1. The maximum permitted depth of blend repair is 0.008in. (0.20 mm).

      2. Blend repair in area A2.

      1. Remove the lifted material only.

      3. Blend repair the holes and the locating pins.

      1. Remove the lifted material only.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-25-230-054 Examine the Outer Diffuser Assembly Segment for Cracks

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-25-220-069 Do the Post Repair Inspection

      1. Examine the surface finish.

      1. The surface finish of all repairs must be as good as the adjacent areas.

      2. Examine the blend repaired areas dimensionally.

      1. Refer to Figure.

        Use dial caliper and external dial caliper to measure the dimensions of the blended areas.

        The blend ratio must be in the limits given in Step.

        Use radius gage set to measure the radii of the blended areas.

    5. SUBTASK 72-50-25-380-051 Do the Post Repair Requirements

      1. Touch-up the blended areas of the gas washed surfaces if necessary.

      1. Refer to VRS4147, TASK 72-50-25-300-010.
