Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-31-350-065 General Instructions to Rebalance the Stage 6 Turbine Disk after Repair

      1. Remove material to get the balance within the limits.

      2. Machine grind the stage 6 turbine disk.

For small quantities of material, use files.

      1. Polish the machined areas.

      2. Use fine stones to make the worked surface as smooth as the adjacent surface.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-31-350-079 Prepare the Stage 6 Turbine Disk for the Rebalance Procedure

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Install the balancing fixture disk on to the vertical balancing machine.

      2. Align the TOP marks.

      1. Install the balancing fixture sleeve on to the balancing fixture.

      2. Align the installation groove of the balancing fixture with the dowel pin of the balancing fixture sleeve.

      1. Install the turbine disk on to the balancing tool assembly and safety.

      2. Move the turbine disk carefully down to the installed balancing tool assembly.

        Align the TOP marks.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-31-350-066 Rebalance the Stage 6 Turbine Disk

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Do the first check for static unbalance of the stage 6 turbine disk at 900 RPM minimum.

      2. The direction of turn on the vertical balancing machine must be in clockwise direction.

The unbalance value includes the unbalance of the tools.

      1. Remove the stage 6 turbine disk from the balancing tool assembly.

      1. Install the stage 6 turbine disk again on to the balancing tool assembly and safety.

      2. The installation of the turbine disk must be in a 180 degree position opposite to the first rebalance position.

        Use the lifting fixture.

      1. Do the check for the actual static unbalance of the stage 6 turbine disk at 900 RPM minimum.

      2. The initial unbalance must not be more than maximum 5 ozin (3600 gmm) when attached on diameter B and plane A.

The remaining unbalance must not be more than maximum 0.50 ozin (360 gmm).

The direction of turn on the vertical balancing maching must be in clockwise direction.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-31-350-140-001 Rebalance the Stage 6 Turbine Disk

      NOTE

      1. Keep the material removal to the minimum to get the balance within the limits.

      2. Do not remove material from a small number of lugs. Remove material over a larger number, with less removal for each lug, to permit more rebalance procedures.

    2. Refer to: Figure and Figure

      1. Correct the unbalance.

      2. Install the disk on grinding machine.

Remove material to bring the unbalance in the limits, refer to Step, Step D.

Remove material as shown in Figure and in Figure.

Edges must be rounded 0.004 to 0.020 in. (0.10 to 0.50 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-31-350-140-002 Rebalance the Stage 6 Turbine Disk

    2. Refer to: Figure and Figure

      1. Optional procedure.

      2. If actual unbalance is between 0.50 and 5.00 ozin (360 and 3600 gmm), mark the actual unbalance value (ozin to two decimal places) in area A2.

Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501 mechanical vibro-peening, 0.002 in. (0.05 mm) maximum depth and refer to Figure.

Marking to be within plus 5 and minus 5 degrees of actual position.

        Optional mark on area A1.

Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, electrolytical etching, shallow.

        No material removal is required.

        Refer to Figure.

If unbalance is already marked on the disk and static unbalance has changed, delete previous unbalance value and mark as described above.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-31-220-110 Do the Post Repair Inspection of the Stage 6 Turbine Disk

      1. Examine the surface finish.

      2. The surface finish of all the ground areas must be as smooth as the adjacent areas.

      1. Examine dimensionally the grinded areas.

      2. Make sure that the dimensions are not more than the maximum, refer to Figure.
