General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

Transportation covers/blanks must be installed immediately after the removal of the components.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-051 Install the Turbine Exhaust Case on the Build Stand

    2. Install IAE 1F10178 Storage and Turnover adapter 1 off on the trunnion plate of IAE 1M14110 Turnover stand 1 off. Attach with the bolts. Put the trunnion plate in vertical position.

    3. Install IAE 1F10042 Engine lift eye rear bare 1 off on IAE 1F10041 TEC lift adapter 1 off. Attach with the bolts.

    4. Attach the TEC bare engine adapter to the engine mounts of the turbine exhaust case.

    5. Lift the turbine exhaust case. Align the front flange of the turbine exhaust case with the flange of the adapter. Attach with the bolts.

    6. Turn the handle of the build stand and put the turbine exhaust case horizontally with the rear face to the top.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-052- Disconnect the Oil Scavenge Tube

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Release the nut which attach the oil scavenge tube to the bracket. Remove the nut, the washer, the two spacers and the bolt from the bracket.

    4. Remove the two nuts and bolts which attach the bracket to the inner support of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the bracket.

    5. Remove the nuts and bolts which attach the bracket to the oil scavenge tube and to the rear external flange of the exhaust case. Remove the bracket.

    6. Remove the three bolts which attach the flange of the oil scavenge tube to the flange of the No. 5 bearing compartment. Disengage the tube from the flange and discard the metallic seal.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-053- Remove the Outer Race of the No. 5 Bearing

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Remove the eight bolts which attach the upper and the lower deaerators to the No. 5 bearing housing. Remove the deaerators.

      1. Remove the extractor disk from the fixture (if installed).

      2. Install the fixture in to the turbine exhaust case. Put the pushing disk against the retainer ring.

      3. Safety the fixture to the rear flange of the No. 5 bearing compartment with the three knobs.

      4. Install the extractor disk on the front end of the guide rod. Put against the outer race of the No. 5 bearing. Safety with the knob.

      5. Make sure that the extractor disk does not touch the flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    4. Operate the slide hammer of the fixture until the outer race of the No. 5 bearing and the retainer ring are removed from the turbine exhaust case.

    5. Release the three knobs and remove the fixture from the turbine exhaust case.

    6. Remove the knob and the extractor disk from the fixture. Remove the outer race of the No. 5 bearing and the retainer ring from the fixture.

    3. Remove the tube union from the turbine exhaust case.

    4. Remove the oil seal and discard it.
