General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

Transportation covers/blanks must be installed immediately after the removal of the components.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-055 Install the Turbine Exhaust Case on the Build Stand

    2. Install IAE 1F10178 Storage and Turnover adapter 1 off on the trunnion plate of IAE 1M14110 Turnover stand 1 off. Attach with the bolts. Put the trunnion plate in vertical position.

    3. Install IAE 1F10042 Engine lift eye rear bare 1 off on IAE 1F10041 TEC lift adapter 1 off. Attach with the bolts.

    4. Attach the TEC bare engine adapter to the engine mounts of the turbine exhaust case.

    5. Lift the turbine exhaust case. Align the front flange of the turbine exhaust case with the flange of the adapter. Attach with the bolts.

    6. Release the lock and turn the handle of the build stand and put the turbine exhaust case horizontally with the rear face to the top. Lock the stand.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-056 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Scavenge Tube

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Remove the bolts and nuts that attach the bracket to the oil scavenge tube and to the rear external flange of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the bracket.

    4. Disconnect the scavenge tube nut at the elbow at external opening in case. Remove the elbow.

    5. Remove the thrust wire from the tube nut at the external opening in case. Remove the tube nut and discard the thrust wire.

    6. Release the nut that attaches the oil scavenge tube and the heat shields to the inner bracket. Remove the nut, washers and bolt.

    7. Remove the lockwire that attaches the two heat shields to the scavenge tube and remove the two heat shields.

    8. Remove the two bolts and nuts that attach the inner bracket to the inner support of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the bracket.

    9. Release the tube nut from the inner adapter on the exhaust case. Remove the oil scavenge tube from the exhaust case.

    10. Remove the adapter from the inner support of the turbine exhaust case. Discard the packing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-057 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Pressure Tube

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Remove the bolts and nuts that attach the bracket to the oil pressure tube clamp and to the rear external flange of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the bracket and clamp.

    4. Disconnect the pressure tube nut at the elbow at external opening in case. Remove the elbow.

    5. Remove the thrust wire from the tube nut at the external opening in case. Remove the tube nut and discard the thrust wire.

    6. Release the nut that attaches the oil pressure tube and the heat shields to the inner bracket. Remove the nut, washers and bolt.

    7. Remove the lockwire that attach the two heat shields to the pressure tube and remove the two heat shields.

    8. Remove the two bolts and nuts that attach the inner bracket to the inner support of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the bracket.

    9. Release the tube nut from the inner adapter on the exhaust case. Remove the oil pressure tube from the exhaust case.

    10. Remove the adapter from the inner support of the turbine exhaust case. Discard the packing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-058 Remove the Rear Housing Shield

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Lift the rear housing shield to remove from exhaust case.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-059 Remove the Outer Race of the No. 5 Bearing

    2. Refer to: Figure

    3. Remove the six bolts which attach the No. 5 bearing strainer elements and the retaining plate to the No. 5 bearing housing.

    4. Remove the two strainer elements.

    5. Remove the retaining plate.

    6. Remove the No. 5 bearing outer race.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-060 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Seal Housing and Heatshields

    3. Release the lock and turn the handle of the build stand to put the turbine exhaust case horizontally with the front face to the top. Lock the stand.

    4. Remove the three bolts which attach the outer heatshield to the exhaust case and remove the heatshield.

    5. Cut the lockwire (12 places) which holds the inner heatshields in place and remove the heatshields.

    3. Remove the seal housing using IAE 1P16375 Knocker puller 1 off.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-50-040-062 Remove the Tube Union

    3. Remove the tube union from the turbine exhaust case.

    4. Remove the washer and discard it.

    4. Remove the stop from each boss.

    5. Remove the pin from each boss.

    6. Remove the two bosses.
