Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-051 Machine the Locating Pin Hole in the Front Flange

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Machine the locating pin hole in the front flange.

      2. Remove all damage and wear.

        Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

        The preplating diameter must be between 0.2601 to 0.2697in. (6.606 to 6.850 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-054 Examine the Case

      1. Do the fluorescent penetrant inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        No cracks are permitted.

      1. Drain the fluorescent penetrant from the struts.

      2. Repair, VRS3655 TASK 72-50-53-300-076 (REPAIR-076).

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-051 Nickel Plate the Locating Pin Hole in the Front Flange

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Mask the areas of the case not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-10-200-502.

        Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

        The plating out ot the locating pin hole area is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the case.

      2. Flush with cold water.

        Flush with hot water.

        Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-051 De-embrittle the Case

      1. Put the case into a furnace at 349 to 399 deg F (176 to 204 deg C) for 4 hours.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-52-220-081 Examine the Case

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

        No circumferential cracks are permitted.

        No rough and blistering are permitted.

      1. Machine the locating pin hole.

      2. The last dimensions of the locating pin hole must be between 0.2579 to 0.2589 in. (6.550 to 6.576 mm).

        Chamfers where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-082 Examine the Nickel Plated Area

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated areas for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a 4x magnifiying glass.

        The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-054 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5411 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
