Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-320-089 Machine the Roller Bearing Bore in the Starter Drive Housing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the roller bearing bore.

      2. The diameter must be between 2.9118 in. to 2.9134 in. (73.960 mm and 74.000 mm) after the removal of the damage.

      3. Deleted.

      1. Blend the drain holes if necessary.

      2. Blend the sharp edges around the drain hole.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-220-120 Examine the Starter Drive Housing

      1. Inspect the housing for cracks in the area of the bearing bore.

      2. Use a magnifying glass.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-330-073 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surfaces.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-350-092 Install the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. CAUTION

MAKE SURE THAT THE LEAD IN CHAMFER OF THE BUSHING POINTS AWAY FROM THE DRIFT.

Install the bushing on the IAE IAE 3F10336 Drift, bushing (dia 67) 1 off.

      1. WARNING

DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSIST.

Increase the temperature of the housing and/or decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing.

      2. Use an oven and/or freezer.

      3. Do not increase the temperature of the housing above 284 deg F (140 deg C).

      4. Do not decrease the temperature of the assembled drift and bushing below -58 deg F (-50 deg C).

      1. NOTE

The difference in temperature between the parts must be 216 deg F (120 deg C).

Remove the housing from the oven and/or the assembled drift and bushing from the freezer.

      2. Use protective gloves.

      1. CAUTION

INSTALL BUSING IN MACHINED BORE IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL FROM FREEZER, OTHERWISE BUSHING CANNOT BE CORRECTLY INSTALLED.

Install the bushing into machined bore.

      2. Use IAE 3F10336 Drift, bushing (dia 67) 1 off and an arbor press.

      3. Give sufficient back-up support at bushing bore area, to prevent housing distortion when you install the bushing.

    4. Let the parts get the ambient temperature.

    5. Remove the drift.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-320-090 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Bushing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the bushing.

      2. The dimension must be between 2.7553 in. to 2.7561 in. (69.985 mm and 70.004 mm). Chamfer where necessary.

      3. Deleted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-330-074 Apply the Chromate Conversion Coating

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the machined surface of the bushing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-22-350-093 Identify the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Make a mark VRS5029 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to TASK 70-09-00-400-501 SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001 .
