Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-23-320-077 Machine the Piloting Diameter of the Mating Ring

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Machine the piloting diameter. Remove all damage and wear. The piloting diameter must be between 1.6567 and 1.6626 in. (42.08 and 42.23 mm) after the removal of damage.

      1. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    2. SUBTASK 72-60-23-240-058 Examine the Mating Ring

      1. Do the magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501.

      2. No cracks are permitted.

    3. SUBTASK 72-60-23-330-067 Nickel Plate the Piloting Diameter of the Mating Ring

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Mask the areas of the rotating ring not to be plated.

      3. Do the nickel plating.

      1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-10-300-503 Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

      2. Refer to the location 4.

      3. The plating out of the area C at locations 3 is permitted but must be removed.

    4. Remove the mask.

      5. Clean and dry the mating ring.

      1. Flush with cold water.

      2. Flush with hot water.

      3. Dry with air blast.

    4. SUBTASK 72-60-23-370-064 De-embrittle the Mating Ring

      1. Put the mating ring into a furnance at 350 to 400 deg F (175 to 205 deg C) for 4 hours.

      1. Do this procedure as soon as possible in 4 hours after the plating.

    5. SUBTASK 72-60-23-220-105 Examine the Mating Ring

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      1. Plating must have a constant color.

      2. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      3. No rough and blistering are permitted.

    6. SUBTASK 72-60-23-320-078 Machine the Piloting Diameter of the Mating Ring

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Machine the piloting diameter. The last dimension of the piloting diameter must be between 1.6547 and 1.6555 in. (42.03 and 42.05 mm).

      1. Clean up the edges of groove and chamfer, where necessary.

    7. SUBTASK 72-60-23-220-106 Examine the Nickel Plated Areas

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated areas for cracks and adhesion.

      1. Use a 4 x magnifying glass.

      2. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding is permitted.

    2. Measure the thcikness of the plating. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm).

    8. SUBTASK 72-60-23-350-078 Record the Repair

    1. Electrochemical etch VRS5001 adjacent to the part number.
