Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-320-051 Machine the Piloting Diameter of the Rotating Ring

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the piloting diameter. Remove all the damage and wear. The piloting diameter damage must be between 2.0898 and 2.0957 in. (53.08 and 53.23 mm) after the removal of damage.

      2. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-240-051 Examine the Rotating Ring

      1. Do the magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-330-051 Nickel Plate the Piloting Diameter of the Rotating Ring

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas of the rotating ring not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-06-300-503.

      3. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions. Refer to location 4.

      4. The plating out of the area C at location 3 is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the rotating ring.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-370-051 De-embrittle the Rotating Ring

      1. Put the rotating ring into a furnace at 349 to 400 deg F (176 to 204 deg C) for 4 hours.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible in 4 hours after the plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-220-054 Examine the Rotating Ring

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

      3. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      4. No rough and blistering are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-320-052 Machine the Piloting Diameter of the Rotating Ring

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the piloting diameter. The last dimension of the piloting diameter must be between 2.0878 and 2.0886 in. (53.03 and 53.05 mm).

      2. Clean up the edges of the groove and chamfers, where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-220-055 Examine the Nickel Plated Areas

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated areas for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a 4X magnifying glass.

      3. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding is permitted.

    2. Measure the thickness of the plating. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-28-350-051 Record the Repair

    2. Electrochemical etch VRS5003 adjacent to the part number.
