General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and seal washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-051 Install the Separating Diaphragm and the Inner Race of the Roller Bearing on the PMA Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PMA ROTOR DURING THE SUBSEQUENT OPERATIONS.

      Put IAE 1F10212 Half ring 2 off around the PMA drive shaft between the rotor and the shoulder.

    4. Install the half rings and the PMA drive shaft on IAE 1F10200 Base 1 off with the rotor to the bottom.

    5. Put the separating diaphragm and the inner race of the roller bearing into an oven and increase the temperature to 250 deg F (121 deg C) maximum.

    6. WARNING

      DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
      HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
      IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

      Install the separating diaphragm on the shaft with the concavity to the bottom.

    7. Install IAE 1F10213 Drift 1 off onto the shaft and put on the separating diaphragm. Push the separating diaphragm against the shoulder. Use an Arbor Press or equivalent. Remove the drift.

    8. Install the inner race of the roller bearing on the shaft.

    9. Install the drift on to the shaft and put on the inner race of the roller bearing.

    10. Apply a load of 2248 lbf (10000 N) to the drift until the inner race touches the separating diaphragm. Use an arbor press or equivalent.

    11. Remove the drift from the shaft.

    12. Let the parts get to the room temperature. Make sure the inner race and the separating diaphragm are correctly installed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-052 Install the Two Outer Races of the Roller Bearings on the PMA Support

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install IAE 1F10170 Base 1 off on swivel vise.

    4. Install the PMA support on the base with the free end of the manifold to the top. Safety with the special screw.

      1. Install the outer race of the roller bearing PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-320).

      2. If necessary, turn the base until the PMA support is to the top.

      3. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
        HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
        IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES OF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

        Increase the temperature of the outer race seat to 250 deg F (121 deg C) maximum. Use hot air gun.

      4. Install the outer race on the PMA support. Use IAE 1F10214 Drift 1 off.

      5. Align the grooves on the outer race flange with the lugs on the PMA support.

      6. Let the parts get to the room temperature. Make sure the outer race is correctly installed on the PMA support.

      1. Install the outer race of the roller bearing PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-280).

      2. Turn the base until the PMA support is to the bottom.

      3. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
        HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
        IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

        Increase the temperature of the outer race seat to 250 deg F (121 deg C) maximum. Use the hot air gun.

      4. Install the outer race on the PMA support. Use the IAE 1F10214 Drift.

      5. Align the grooves on the outer race flange with the lugs on the PMA support.

      6. Let the parts get to the room temperature. Make sure the outer race is correctly installed on the PMA support.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-053 Install the PMA Shaft and Rotor on the PMA Support

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. If necessary, turn the base until the PMA support is to the bottom.

    4. CAUTION

      DO NOT TURN THE BASE BEFORE TO HAVE SAFETIED THE PMA SHAFT AND ROTOR.

      Install the PMA shaft, with the rotor to the top, into the PMA support. Put the rollers of the bearing into the outer race installed on the PMA support.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-054 Install the Bearing Spacer and the Inner Race of the Roller Bearing on the PMA Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Install IAE 1F10215 Installation support 1 off on the base.

      2. Install the two support on the base.

      3. Install the plate on the two support and safety with the special screws.

      4. Turn clockwise the knob until the pusher touches the PMA shaft.

    3. Turn the base until the PMA support is to the top.

    4. Install the bearing spacer on the PMA shaft and put on the lower roller bearing.

    5. Put the inner race of the roller bearing in to an oven and increase the temperature to 250 deg F (121 deg C) maximum.

    6. WARNING

      DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
      HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
      IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

      Put the inner race on the PMA shaft.

    7. Install IAE 1F10213 Drift 1 off on the inner race. Apply a load of 2248 lbf (10000 N) to the drift until the inner race touch the bearing spacer. Use an Arbor Press or equivalent.

    8. Remove the drift from the shaft.

    9. Let the parts get to the room temperature. Make sure the parts are correctly installed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-055-A Install the PMA Drive Gear (Pre SBE 72-0616)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Put the PMA drive gear PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-120) into an oven and increase the temperature to 250 deg F (121 deg C) maximum.

    4. WARNING

      DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
      HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
      IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

      Install the PMA drive gear on the PMA shaft. Align the spline of the gear with the spline of the shaft.

    5. Install a slave nut on the shaft. Tighten the nut.

    6. Remove the slave nut when the parts get to room temperature.

    7. Install a new nut PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-100), PN NAS1291C7 on the PMA rotor shaft.

    8. Measure the self locking torque of the nut. If the torque is not between 14.2 lbfin - 88.5 lbfin (1.6 Nm - 10 Nm) discard the nut.

    9. Torque the nut to between 309.8 lbfin - 354 lbfin (35 Nm - 40 Nm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-055-B Install the PMA Drive Gear (Post SBE 72-0616)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Put the PMA drive gear PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-120) into an oven and increase the temperature to 250 deg F (121 deg C) maximum.

    4. WARNING

      DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT PARTS WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES.
      HOT PARTS CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.
      IMMERSE THE CONTACTED AREA IN COLD WATER FOR 10 MINUTES IF THE SKIN IS BURNED. IMMEDIATELY GET THE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF PAIN OR BLISTERING PERSISTS.

      Install the PMA drive gear on the PMA shaft. Align the spline of the gear with the spline of the shaft.

    5. Install the IAE 1P16642 Reaction spanner 1 off on the PMA drive gear.

    6. Install a slave nut on the shaft. Tighten the nut.

    7. Remove the slave nut when the parts get to room temperature.

    8. Install a new nut PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-100), PN 4B0361 on the PMA rotor shaft.

    9. Measure the prevailing torque of the nut. If the torque is not between 8.9 lbfin - 115 lbfin (1 Nm - 13 Nm) discard the nut.

    10. Torque the nut to between 376.2 lbfin - 420.4 lbfin (42.5 Nm - 47.5 Nm) plus the prevailing torque measured at Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-060 Install the Nut and Washer to the PMA Shaft and Rotor Assembly, If Required

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the washer PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-195) and nut PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-190) to the PMA shaft.

    4. Torque the nut to 290 lbfin - 324 lbfin (33 Nm - 36 Nm).

    5. Remove the reaction spanner.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-440-056 Install the Oil Nozzle on the PMA Support

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install PMA Shaft, Rotor, and Housing Assembly (72-60-33, 01-400) packing 1 off on the oil nozzle.

    4. Install IAE 1F10082 Guide Pin 1 off into the bolt hole near the seat of the oil nozzle on the PMA support.

    5. Install the oil nozzle on the PMA support. Align the hole on the oil nozzle flange with the guide pin on the PMA support.

    6. Remove the guide pin. Safety the oil nozzle with the washer and bolt. Torque the bolt to 35.400 lbfin to 53.100 lbfin (4 Nm to 6 Nm).

    7. Remove the special screws. Remove the PMA drive gear assembly from the base.
