Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-320-051 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the drive gear.

      2. The inner diameter must be between 0.4730 to 0.4793 in. (12.015 to 12.174 mm).

      3. Remove all damage and wear.

      4. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-240-053 Examine the Drive Gear

      1. Do the magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501.

      3. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-210-051 Nital Etch the Inner Diameter

      1. Do the nital etch of the inner diameter to find sign of burned metal.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-21-02-210-501.

      3. Machine the inner diameter if there is sign of burned metal.

      4. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-370-051 Do the De-embrittlement Treatment

      1. Put the P.M.A. drive gear into oil at 284 deg F (140 deg C) for 2 hours.

      2. Use a hot oil tank.

      3. Do this process as soon as possible in 2 hours after the etch.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-330-051 Nickel Plate the Inner Diameter of the P.M.A. Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas of the gear not to be plated.

      1. Do the nickel plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-05-300-503.

      3. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimensions.

      4. The plating out of the inner diameter area is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the gear.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-370-052 Do the Embrittlement Relief to the Gear

      1. Put the gear into a furnace at 349 to 400 deg F (179 to 204 deg C) for 4 hours.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible in 4 hours after the plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-220-073 Examine the Inner Diameter

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

      3. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      4. No rough and blistering are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-320-052 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the gear.

      2. The inner diameter must be between 0.4714 to 0.4718 in. (11.974 to 11.985 mm).

      3. Clean up the edges of groove and chamfers, where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-220-074 Examine the Inner Diameter of the P.M.A. Drive Gear

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plated areas for cracks and adhesion.

      2. Use a 4X magnifying glass.

      3. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-33-350-051 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5175 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal lifted by marking.
