Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-320-051 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Diaphragm

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the diaphragm.

      2. The inner diameter must be between 2.3922 to 2.3984 in. (60.762 to 60.920 mm).

      3. Remove all damage and wear.

      4. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

      5. Use a grinding machine.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-240-053 Examine the Diaphragm

      1. Do a magnetic particle inspection for cracks.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-24-01-240-501.

        2. No cracks are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-330-051 Nickel Plate the Inner Diameter of the Diaphragm

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas of the diaphragm not to be plated.

      2. Do the nickel plating.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-05-300-503.

        2. Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit machining to the last dimensions.

        3. Plating not in the inner diameter area is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Clean and dry the diaphragm.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with an air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-370-051 De-embrittle the Diaphragm

      1. Heat the diaphragm to 349 to 400 deg F (176 to 204 deg C) for 4 hours.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible in less than 4 hours after the plating.

      3. Use a Furnace.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-220-061 Examine the Inner Diameter

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plating for the finish, cracks or adhesion.

      2. Plating must have a constant color.

      3. No circumferential cracks are permitted.

      4. No roughness or blistering are permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-320-052 Machine the Inner Diameter of the Diaphragm

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the inner diameter of the diaphragm.

      2. The inner diameter must be between 2.3905 to 2.3910 in. (60.720 to 60.732 mm).

      3. Clean the edges of the groove and chamfers, where necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-220-062 Examine the Inner Diameter of the Diaphragm

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plated areas for cracks or adhesion.

      2. A natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept a thickness less than 0.0006 in. (0.015 mm) after the last machining.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-43-350-052 Record the Repair

      1. Vibro engrave VRS5022 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Remove the metal which is lifted by vibro engraving.
