This repair uses a welding procedure to weld cracks or to build up material in worn areas.

For the method to clean the parts, refer to Cleaning-001 TASK 75-22-48-100-101.

NOTE

Equivalent materials or equipment can be used.
More equipment and materials necessary to do this repair are given in SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501 and SPM TASK 70-31-02-310-501-001.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-230-052 Examine the Damaged Area of the Duct Assembly

      1. Florescent penetrant examine the damaged area for crack indications.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

      1. If there are no cracks.

      2. Refer to Step

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-350-051 Prepare the Crack for Weld

      1. Prepare the crack.

      2. Drill a hole to 0.080 to 0.100 in. (2.0 to 2.5 mm) in diameter at each end of the crack.

      3. Use a router to remove the material from the length of the crack to a maximum of 0.050 in. (1.3 mm) in width.

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-350-052 Remove Sharp Edges from the Repair Area

      1. Remove the sharp edges.

      2. Use CoMat 05-021 WATERPROOF SILICON CARBIDE in the areas to be welded.

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-110-052 Remove all the Dirt from the Surface

      1. Remove all oxides, hydrocarbon, grit and scale by local cleaning from the surface to be welded and the adjacent area.

      2. Refer to Cleaning-000 TASK 75-22-48-100-101.

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-310-051 Weld the Crack or Worn Area

      1. Use welding procedure to close the crack or to build-up material in the worn area.

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-350-053 Remove the Excess Weld

      1. Remove excess weld and make the weld area smooth with the adjacent area.

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-110-052 Clean the Repair Area

      1. Clean the repaired area.

      2. Refer to Cleaning-000 TASK 75-22-48-100-101.

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-230-053 Examine the Repaired area for Cracks

      1. Penetrant examine the repaired area for cracks. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-02-230-501.

      2. If there are cracks, repeat Step thru Step

      3. If there are no cracks, go to Step

    1. SUBTASK 75-22-48-350-054 Identify the Repair

      1. Make a mark VRS2304 adjacent to the assembly number.

      2. Use a CoMat 06-131 MARKING PEN of contrasting color.
